2013 breakout athlete in the Seoal

Post by jumphigh »

Every year it seams like there is a new athlete to emerge as one of the top performers in the league. This season who will be the new break out star who will surprise a few people in the league.

It could be a freshman, a first time upper classmen or someone who just worked hard and improved greatly?

As of right now I will go with Duff from Warren. He can only be in 4 events but he is near the top in about 7 events. Where Warren will use him at this time is probably undecided. If I was his coach [ha ha] I would have him do 110h, 300h, Long Jump and Pole vault. He is one of the few that does well in four individual events. Stevens from Logan could do the 100, 200,400 and the long jump but i see him in a relay before the 400. Four freshman i see doing well are Cantley and Neehouse from Warren and Wolts and Cordle from Logan. Cantley looks like he could be a big time hurdler.Neehouse could make a lot of noise in the longer relays. Myers will be the future 400/800/1600 go to guy for Logan. Cordle could be a big man in the 800,4x800,1600 and 3200.If Robinson from Portsmouth can stay health and Portsmouth come up with some more speed he could be the 100/200 champ and be the 4x1 and 4x2 anchor man.

For the girls everyone needs to keep a eye on Myers from Logan and Watts from Gallipolis. Everyone knows about Osborne but looks for Gardner from Warren to pick up a lot of 1st this year. Both hurdles are hers to win also a very good pole vaulter. She is also used in a relay but i would like for her coach to find her the 4th individual event.

Betterndorf from Chillicothe will have his name heard a lot too. He could very well be the top 400 guy.Could make a good showing in the 200/1600. Might show up in the 100 meters which out of the four events would be his weakness.

It all depends where Gallipolis uses Allison. Gallipolis seems to come up with 100 and 200 guys. With some work Allison could be in the thick of the 100m,200m, 400m and the long Jump.

Strongest thing in the whole southeastern part of Ohio will be the relay teams this year. A lot of team have most of their runners back from relays used in the district on into the state meet. Some bumping around comes at that time of the year so it should be interesting to see what ones will be used during the regular season.
