Athens Regional D2 - The Venue

The workers were friendly and the site is beautiful. This is an excellent location to watch a high school football game. It's about as good as it gets.

From a spectators point of view, this is an absolutely terrible place to hold a regional track meet. Because of the way the stands are built, from no location in the home stands can you see a the runners in lines 5, 6, 7 or 8. Maybe just the tops of the runners head in lines 5 and 6. So for the sprints, hurdle events and most of the relays, you can't see half the field.

This lead to many fans running down to the fence at the front of the stands in an attempt to see their kids or their team in lanes 5 through 8. Then the rest of the fans in the stands couldn't see any runners. This in turn lead to an announcement to not go stand in front of the fence at the front of the stands. Lots of frustrated fans to say the least.

Would have much rather drove to Muskingum where the stands run down to ground level. Not a bad seat to be had.

Haven't been to the new Athens field. Sure must have changed thing from the old place. Seemed to be a good place for track. Been thinking about taking this in.

Can't remember where it was but I was at a place where you couldn't see lane 7/8 very well.

This is not meant to bash Athens. Concessions were fine, restrooms clean, ample parking. The announcer did a very nice job. High jump, long jump and pole vault were very nice.

But up against lane eight was a 6 or 8 foot wall that is the beginning of the stands. You couldn't even begin to see the runners in those lanes.

It was a common theme in the stands. People were not happy. Fans who sit in the home stands expect to be able to see the runners competing…certainly at a Regional level.
