I remember the old stadium track when it was cinders. Broke my arm there hurdling as a freshman. Won the discus in the Mingo Relays as a senior. Lots of memories there in the late 70's. Logan always treated us great (Jackson) Al Riffey was a great coach and very advanced for the day.

Still have cinder's in my knee from the spring of 71!

i hated running on that track i ran a 200 and fell and rolled about 20ft.

I run for Ol' Riff now, and he's still on top of the game...one of the best experiences of my HS career.

Ask Riffey about the time he made the entire Jackson team, throwers and all, run (20) 440's because we were slacking. After that day, I was never winded the rest of the season!

Yeah, that old track was a treat! I had to disk it, drag it, roll it, and mark it. Took HOURS!

A story about Riff. One year there was a huge downpour during the mile - we could not see 10 feet in front of us and an athlete from Jackson decided to hide behind the brick scoreboard during the deluge. On the last lap he jumped out and was finishing - leading the race and Al yelled, "Ain't now way! He couldn't run it this fast in his dreams!"

There are so many stories from that track I could go on and on for hours. When we visited nice facilities - such as an actual quarter mile track we appreciated it. When Rio Grande got their new all-weather track our kids thought they were in heaven.

going down during the hurdles could really be a nightmare.

Would love to know who the Jackson runner was for Coach Riffey.

About what year?

Was great when Logan upgraded from the cinders to the crushed clay pipe...Worse than running in sand

Didn't GA's Golden throw 159'8" in the disc last year at Logan?

He did throw that distance last year, but I don't know if it was at Logan.

I did come up with Golden throwing that distance but it was at The Chesapeake Lions Invite

Mr. No Reply, I have been updating Mingo Relay records and when i was doing that i found a discrepancy in the girls triple jump for a stadium record. According to what i have Hannah McCorkle of Chillicothe jumped 33'64 3/4" in the triple in 2009. Also, Branson Sheets jumped 37' 3/4". By the way his first name is Branson.

Also, in the boys 800 the young man's name from Teays Valley was Taylor Conn.

And, lastly, please check the shuttle hurdle relay record. I believe Trent, David, Brandon, and Seth ran a faster time in 2009.
