Southeast Coaches Association Meeting Tuesday May 29th

Post by wch125 »

Reminder the Southeast Coaches Association will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 at the Jackson Ponderosa and the Coaches will be discussing All District, Coaches of the year and Atheletes of the Year. Coaches Dues $10 Per team. I would also like to talk about the Prelims we have in the Southeast District and whether we want to keep them or get rid of them.

Is all-district only the event champions/state qualifiers?...or are there a few potential openings for outstanding accomplishments at the district meet that didn't win an event?

Athletes only eligible if their coach had paid dues correct?

Correct All League is Event Champions and State Qualifiers. District Champions and State Qualifiers will be recognized even if there coaches did not pay there dues I believe. Do not hold me to that. Also Outstanding Accomplishments I'm not sure about but I'm sure it could be brought up at the meeting.

I've not been in the association for two years but I know the five years I was they allotted a few athletes that didn't win or advance to state. This year there is an athlete that scored 27 points at the district meet but didn't win any event but advanced to regionals with a 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in four individual events. I coach first base for a softball team so my opinion isn't worth much anymore....but to me that is an all-district athlete.

None of them were relays.

2nd in 200m
2nd in 300H
3rd in 100m
4th in long jump

Charlene Stoudt of Paint Valley was the only athlete in the D3 Girls North with more points (28)

It has been the event winners and state qualifer who earn all-district, but there have been instances in which the coaches in attendance believe there is another deserving athlete. In order for athletes or coaches to be recognized as AoY or CoY, then the coach would have needed to have paid the dues or to have arrangements made so they can be paid. However all of the all-district athletes will have certificates printed for them, which will then be presented to them at the all-district banquet.

I believe it was decided upon that instead of giving district athlete of the year that there would be 12 male awards and 12 female wards for the best time, distance or height at the district, regional or state meet. It will take some of the drama out of the decision. Who is to say what is better a 5'4 high jumping girl or a 140 discus girl so this way it levels the field and is strictly on event performance.
