Girls
The 2014 track championship went to the girls from Logan.Logan girls scored 134 point in winning 7 events.....100 hurdles, 200 meters, 3200 meters,4x800, high jump, Long jump and shot put. The Gallipolis girls took second place with 96 point and winning 5 events.....300 hurdles, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1600 meters and the 4x4. Hannah Watts set a new record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.99. Warren came in third with 76 points and also winning 5 events.....100 meters,4x1, 4x2, Discus and Pole Vault. Gardner set a new record in the pole vault with a vault of 11' 06". Jackson took forth place with 16 points followed by Portsmouth with 3. Starting when the league went to meters....H. Watts went to #1 in the 800 meters, Gardner went to #1 in the pole vault, Seibel of Logan went to #8 in the high jump. 2014 had 8 of the 17 events finish in the bottom half of winning results in the last 34 years. High jump finished next to last, Discus was 3rd worst, 4x8 was last, 100 hurdles finished 4th worst, 100 meters 4th worst, 1600 meters was 7th worst, 4x1 was 4th worst, 4x2 was next to last. Gallipolis graduated around 54 points, Warren 41 points and Logan 9 points. Out of the 16 girls on relays teams Gallipolis and Warren graduated half of these with Logan having 3 go to graduation. Portsmouth looks to lose 2 and Jackson might be at zero.My 2015 perdiction is Logan, Warren, Gallipolis, Jackson and Portsmouth. Jackson will have the best 8th grade class coming in to the freshman class but might not see their talent until 2016. I'm picking Warren for second because of their in coming freshman.
Boys
Logan wins 6th straight championship with 118 points followed by Warren, Gallipolis, Portsmouth and Jackson. Logan only won three events, 110 hurdles, 1600 meters and Shot put. Warren won 5 events 400, 3200, 4x8, PV, and Discus. Gallipolis won 8 events,100 meters, 200 meters, 300 hurdles, 800 meters, 4x1,4x4, High jump and Long jump and Portsmouth picked up one 4x2. Logan's depth paid off with placing two boys in several events to make up the 8 points for first or at times more. I had said before the season started the it might come down to the 4x4, but going into the last event Logan had a 17 point lead. Click from Gallipolis moved to #7 in the 100M. DeLong from Logan moved to # 6 in the 110 hurdles also joining a handle full that have gone under 15.00. Click also moved to #8 in the 200M. If I'm looking at thing right Woltz from Logan ran the best winning time for Logan in the 1600. Gallipolis had the 7th best time in the 4x100, Portsmouth had the 6th best time in the 4x200. Allison from Gallipolis had the 9th best jump in the Long jump. C. Wigal had the 6th best vault in the pole vault ,even with injuries. A few bad notes...The winning time in the 400 was the slowest winning time. The 3200 time was the 6th slowest, 4x4 was the 3rd slowest, 4x8 was the slowest, the winning discus throw was the shortest throw along with the shot put toss. The winning height in the high jump was next to last. Graduation took around 52 points from Loagn, 40 plus from Gallipolis, under 20 for Warren. 2015 will favor Warren stopping Logan's winning streak. Logan can win next year but they will have to have some boys come back out for track. My pick next season will be Warren, Logan, Gallipolis, Portsmouth and Jackson.
