GAHS boys win Athens Rotary invite; Blue Angels second

Gallipolis boys win Athens Rotary relays;
Blue Angels finish second in Friday’s meet
Gallia Academy’s High School Blue Devils captured Friday’s Athens Rotary Relays by outscoring Zane Trace 115-106. Athens finished third with 93 points, River Valley fourth with 23, Athens “B” fifth with two points and Wellston sixth with one point.

In the girls division, Athens captured top honors with 148 points. Gallipolis was second with 80 points, Zane Trace third with 76. River Valley fourth with 34, Athens “B” fifth with eight and Wellston sixth with seven points.

Gallipolis participated in the event minus several players who took part in a state band contest on Friday (and came away with top honors).

In the boys division Friday, Gsllipolis captured six first place events—pole vault by Joel Craft (12-6) for eight points; 4 by 400 relay in 3:43.40. Runners were Shaylin Logan, Winston Wade, Grif McKinness and Jeremy Wilson for eight points

Jacob Click won he 300 meter hurdles in 45.48 for eight points. Click also won the 100 meter hurdles event in 16:53 for eight points.

Jeremy Wilson won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He won the 100 meter event in 11:57 for eight points and the 200 meter event in 24.50 for eight points.

Gallipolis also won the 4 by 400 relay in 3:43.40 for eight points. Runners were Skyline Logan, Winston Wade, Grif McKinniss and Jacob Click.

Other Blue Devils scoring points were:

4 by 200 relay team placed second in 1:39.85 for six points. Runners were Wade Jarrell, Wes Jarrell, Jacob Click and Jeremy Wilson. (Athens won the event in 1:36.35).

4 by 100 relay team placed second in 45.48 for six points. Runners were Shaylin Logan, Wade Jarrell, Logan Allison and Jeremy Wilson. (Athens won the race in 44.59).

Quin McKinniss placed third in the 100 hurdles in 18:51 for four points. Winston Wade placed third in the 1600 meter run in 4.56.68 for four points. Wade was second in the 800 meter run in 2.14.33 for six points. Shaylin Logan was second in the 400 meter dash in 54.52 for six points.

Caleb Campbell was second in the shot put with a toss of 41.6 for six points. Wes Jarrell with fourth with a toss of 36.3, good for one point. Logan Allison was second in the long jump with a jump of19.10.50, good for six points. Wade Jarrell was third in that event with a jump of 17.11.75, good for four points.

Logan Allison was third in the high jump with a leap of 5-06, good for three points. Wes Jarrell tied Logan with a leap of 5.06, good for three points.

In the girls division, the Blue Angels captured three firsts—the 4 by 400 relay, 4 by 200 relay and 800 meter run.

The 4 by 200 winners were Taylor Queen, Abby Wiseman, Breanna West, and Hannah Watts in 1.52.09, good for eight points.

The 4 by 440 winners were Abby Wiseman, Halleigh Caldwell, Naomi Sabastian and Hannah Watts in 4.21.96 for eight points.

In the 800 meter run, Hannah Watts claimed first place in 2:24 85 for eight points.

Other Blue Angels scoring in Friday’s meet were:

Madison Holley was second in the 3200 run in 12.39.19 for six points. Elizabeth Holley was fifth in the 1600 meter run in 6.19.78 good for one point. Madison Holley was third in the 800 yard run in 2.34.19 for four points. Kathleen Allen was second in the 100 meter in 17:74 for six points.

Halleigh Caldwell was fourth in the 400 dash in 11.07.08 for two points. Taylor Queen was fourth in the 200 meter run in 29.03 for two points. Breanna West was third in the 100 meter dash in 13.90 for three points.

In the shot put event, Ashley Huffman was second with a toss of 30.04 for six points. Taylor Queen placed second in the long jump with a jump of 14.0650, good for six points. Halleigh Caldwell finished third in the pole vault at 7.06 for four points. Breanna West was second with an 8.0 jump, good for six points.

GAHS was second in the 4 by 199 relay with a time of 53.23 for six points. Runners were Taylor Queen, Abby Wiseman, Breanna West, and Hannah Watts. Kathleen Allen placed second in the 300 meter low hurdles in 52.42 for four points.

The GAHS thinclads return to action at Pt. Pleasant on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
