Fairland cutting wrestling

Post by OH IO 07 »

I've heard that Fairland is going to be cutting wrestling, along with golf. Any other schools cutting wrestling? Or anyone have info about the Fairland situation?

Yes the board did vote to keep wrestling and golf. This is great for the kids and I am very happy for the kids. The wrestling coach on the other hand may have put himself on an island by himself with no supplies except a short rope and tree with one branch.

How can an educator purpose that the school board make academic cuts to save a sport team?

How can a coach purpose to cut something from every other sport, but not purpose a cut for his sport?

How can a coach purpose to take money away from the bus drivers and support staff, but cannot purpose a cut for him team?

How can a coach purpose to cut the Athletic Directors pay and add more duties on, but then want his support. Really?

All I can say is Wentz good luck finding someone that will support you or your programs in the future.

Who are you really coaching for, the kids or the money and yourself?

Good to hear they are keeping the teams. How will this affect the overall budget picture at Fairland? If they were planning on cutting these teams, will that money come from somewhere else now?

Dragonfan5 evidently you were not at the meeting. Please contact me personally if you would like to discuss who I coach for.

Why would you like for me to contact you personally? You have made this an open forum at school and the board meeting. So why ask me to contact you personally now?

I have no ties to the school as of right now, but in the very near future I will have family attending Fairland Schools once again. That’s when it becomes an issue. When my family has you a teacher I would like for you to teach the subject at hand. It seems hard to understand that a student can learn about the Civil War, Revolutionary War, or Christian Crusades if you’re discussing how to save the school money or what person is over paid in the school district.

If I look at the numbers correctly Fairland Schools will take an 11% cut to their budget for the 2011-2012 school year and additional 4% cut for the 2012-2013 school year. How would you purpose that we bridge the gap coach?

Dragon 5 --- Welcome back to Fairland school system. I'm sorry that these issues matter only when you have family attending but that is not an unfamiliar attitude in today's society. I, for one, attended the meeting. I also have children in the system today. I am honored to have Mr. Wentz involved with these children. I suppose that the Fairland School Board is elected and paid to determine where these cuts should take place. We, as parents, can only voice our concerns. We did that. Noone in that meeting suggested academic cuts be made. The entire State of Ohio is in this same budget crunch. As, the Athletic Booster President, Pete Thackston, stated, We are fortunate to have boosters that are able and willing to help with some of these needs. Anyone that witnesses the time and dedication the majority of Fairland's coachs' gives knows that money is not the motivation. Dragon 5 you are so "off base" here.

One suggestion was "pay for play". It is already in most school systems and if that is the next step then----------- let's go.
