west siders 2010 starters
Re: west siders 2010 starters
The Oline and Dline next year will be strong, and deep there are 8-10 that played last year and are able to start or to fill in, and these 8-10 are all neck and neck, I think every position will be open. This team should have a very good run...this team is loaded top to bottom, the only think they are lacking now is that swagger they need, they need to know they are going to win...but its not football season yet and I'm sure they will have it by game 3 if not sooner...but, more importantly if they want a long run they can't get a big head
Re: west siders 2010 starters
I heard the board re-newed Coach-T's contract and it was 5-0 vote.
Now West needs to wake up and start paying their Coaches. It is hard to find a group of Coaches that work and travels so far to help as this group.
Thanks,
Coaches

So Glad coach "T" is going to be around a for a while! A long while I hope. He works so hard for our kids, and the kids work hard for him because they like him. Great Coach! Things are really looking up for our Athletic Programs at West. The fans that I talk to are getting Excited about them.

Its definitely a team to be excited about, we have very qualified coaches in every sport, I would put our Football, Basketball, or Baseball coach up against any in the area. Now all we need to do is stick with said personel and we should see more success come our way in all sports and not just football

I agree 100%! Many people on the West Side have worked Real hard to get where we are from pee wee to High School and I for one am very proud of all of them. They have given up their evenings and weekends to see that these Kids have every oportunity to succeed in sports. Acidemics is the most important but Winners on the Fields and courts will make winners in the class rooms IMO. It takes HARD WORK to succeed in life and I just believe Athletics teaches kids that fact. I think what is happening at West is we are rebiulding our winning tradition with all the good people we have in our Coaching positions. Looking forward to watching it ALL unfold over the few years.
Re: west siders 2010 starters
I for one never voted for the guy and I just wish he would stay out of Coach T's business! Coach is doin a great job down there and it def shows with the kids and their attitude not to mention the disipline on the field! I have many friends from other schools and they were very impressed with the disipline from the kids when they got beat last yr. I know we have a few that think they can do what they want due to the position of the daddys but I say sit those kids and let some other kid play that has worked as hard as they have. I am so excited about this bunch of kids coming up and this yrs team. I do think these kids a great shot at making a run in the playoffs if the parents would keep their butts out of it!!!! let the coaches coach and do what they know how to do!!! I think it is a great idea to bring the jr high coaches up as well cause they have done a great job in jr high!!!! So parents please........STAY OUT OF IT AND LET THE COACHES DUE THEIR JOB and just maybe, we will have a playoff team this yr!!

Very Well Put! A lot of people sit in the stands week after week and never get what really goes on in a system. Beyond the wieght lifting, conditioning.learning new plays, ect. is also making fine young men out of these kids. Only from the wright Attitude comes dicipline, respect, composure it takes to play Football. The Victories we're seeing at West is not only on the score board. If you don't believe me just go to some of the (Away) Basketball games and see some of the young men coach T has coached come up to him with their kids and wives just to see him. Those are some of the things that really count IMO. We may loose a few Battles (Games) but I think We're winning the War with a man like this. Coaching is making a Difference in kids Lives outside the lines and in their LIVES.

you mean the coaches dont get paid over there?
or ,are you talking about assistants that drive from other districts?
if you are driving from another area to volunteer, and whining about getting paid, try to volunteer in your own area, or get paid up there

West does have two coaches that drive from other districts, and do not get paid, these men are vital to the coaching staff too...I don't think it would hurt West to pay the coaches a little more...from what I understand they are last in the county as far as pay scale...I know Northwest's head (Spears) made twice what Tipton did in 06...a little crazy if you ask me

Re: west siders 2010 starters
I understand
but, if you agree to a "Volunteer" position, you know you arent getting paid, maybe the school cant afford it, or feels if they was going to pay, they would pay someone more qualified?
for what ever reasons, thet offered to volunteer, that means no pay, like it or leave it.
volunteers are great and usualy means they reallt are in it "for the kids" but then dont start complaining about getting paid, thats not what you signed up for

The volunteers are not complaining, osu77 was just stating his opinion. Of coarse all the coaches love
the kids and whatever sport they coach or they wouldnt be there. You must not get paid enough at
whatever you do, or your panties wouldnt be in such a bunch.

Re: west siders 2010 starters
Coaches on the high school level should be paid descent. Football especially is a year round sport to compete. West should make it a point to compensate their coaches on the same level that other schools are.
As far as the staffs, I like our staffs in basketball and football (don't know the baseball). The discipline has been mentioned and to me that is important. I don't see kids quitting in either sport like in the past. I don't see stupid penalties and antics that embarrassed me as a fan. I see kids playing hard until the end, even coming back to win or make the game exciting in both sports from big deficits. Yeah we have some really good athletes, but getting them to work all year round in big numbers hasn't been the norm here. All in all, I look for West to make some playoff runs in football over the next few years and they will be very competive in basketball soon. The girls sports are looking up also.
The only changes I want to see are more envolvement from the High School basketball coaches with Pee wee programs. We are behind in basketball. Kids need more practice time and more camps. We need to turn our league into a fundamental based league. The guys over the league are trying, but they need more help. One gym is not enough for an elementary school as big as West. Provisions need to be made to allow the kids to practice at the other schools and to also make some open gym time for practice. If we do that, things will really be looking up. Our Pee Wee football program is in good shape. Kids are running the basic high school stuff and are very competitive.

Re: west siders 2010 starters
Siderman, Coach Rapp is our baseball coach. Good coach that the boys like and respect. The school board has put some very good coaches in place. All the boys coaches work at the school. Which I think is good, so they can monitor their grades and behavior.
The girls coaches Evans (softball), Maynard (basketball) don't work for the school. But are both very good coaches that really care for the kids. I can't believe I'm saying this, but great job school board. Now lets pay them so their not the lowest paid in the county.

Had Rapp in football for a while. I like him. Didn't he have the baseball team before?

Yes this is Coach Rapp's second stint as Wests baseball coach. I do believe he went back to school for a couple of years. Good example, to show the boys how important education is.

Stay in the weightroom fellas, nothing bad ever came from squats, bench, and cleans!
Re: west siders 2010 starters
This is true and I believe West can win the close one this year and that will make a big difference.
