Privt and open enrollment schools win all of the titles

BTW, was looking at a Yappi football subject about the MAC conference football dynasty. And they talked about the private school vs the MAC. MAC is pretty dominate. But one guy posted about MAC soccer teams. So I investigated. I ask some of you to look this up and post also. I could not find boys soccer for any of the MAC teams except one.

SO, I looked at Wheelersburg atheletics and found 20 some players on the BOYS soccer team. And there are some darn good athletes on that team!!! Would be GREAT football players if they had played. I understand why they didn't if they are good soccer players. But the MAC teams don't have teams. Is that because they don't want to have soccer or they don't have soccer because they want to play football.

Soccer is huge in the metro areas of Ohio. Some elite soccer players don't play high school sports at all as they travel for their club team year around for the most part.

Private schools won all 6 divisional titles this year (3 boys, 3 girls). Will the MAC schools field soccer teams in the future? My guess is yes as the sport continues to grow. If the state switched soccer to a spring sport, I'm sure they would.

The problem with switching soccer to the spring is that it would then interfere with baseball/softball. This would not apply to school with turf fields, but for those with grass fields, it would add to the difficulty of keeping that field ready nearly year round. There would be no real down time for field maintenance, resodding, etc.

I don't think soccer will become a spring sport for Ohio high schools but it wouldn't be inconceivable. If I had to choose between going to a football game or a soccer match, I would choose soccer every time.

I grew up in rural SE OH and left the area in '84 after college. Soccer in America has come a long way in 30 years and the current momentum is staggering at least in the metro areas. To me, baseball feels like it's on a decline and I don't see softball competing for soccer athletes or vice versa. For young girls, soccer is probably their first sporting experience around here. I don't have a crystal ball but I can imagine soccer growing well beyond what it is today. I wonder what high school football will look like in 30 years. I'll go out on a limb and say it will look nothing like it is today at the high school level across the state.

Open or closed enrollment is a financial decision made by school boards to ensure they are getting enough tax dollars to operate the district and pay the bills incurred by their enrollment. There is no relationship between open/closed enrollment and private schools.
