JC is very good, but after that everyone close on that side of the river is mediocre. Just inflated records because the bad teams are beating the real bad teams. And to say Raceland is better than wheelersburg? Do you really believe that?
I agree Raceland is not no where near Wheelersburg.
That being said they are a good team and should not be overlooked.
They should have bear Ashland but struggled against Greenup Co.
They did beat a few bad teams but that is what good teams do.
This Raceland team is not as good as Last years but they will be motivated to say none the least.
Can they stop Ironton's power game I say no and Ironton should win by 2 scores but it will be close till the 4th quarter.
A very good match up for Ironton to prepare for the playoffs with.
big concerns for Ironton is though is.
1- penalties.
2-Pass defense.
3-subtaining blocks in the passing game.
Now is the time to be the HUNTERS and not the hunted Tigers.
Let them fear your ROAR at the TANK.

westfan I was talking about the ky. teamsin this immediate area. Johnson central is a beast. with a great program, the whole county goes there. I was talking about the more local ones. and I'm certainly not saying raceland is better than wheelersburg, or west for that matter. some have but I know better. raceland has faced nobody the likes of ironton this year. am I saying we'll stomp raceland, no I ain't. they'll be a worthy opponent that we'll have to play like our hair's on fire. ----------I am saying raceland has not faced a team like ironton this year. making comparisons to raceland/wheelersburg you won't see on any of my posts. I promise you.

Having watched both Wheelersburg and Raceland play, I would say that Raceland IS just as good as the Burg. In my honest opinion, Raceland will give Ironton fits. Hopefully Ironton will minimize their senseless mistakes...this will be a huge factor in this game. I'll be there rooting for the Tigers.

Not a hater because Raceland plays good football for their size. But their signature win was a struggle against coal grove. They do bring a boatload of points though.

I don't believe Raceland will shut out the Tigers again like last season, but I believe it will be a close game. As I said, I do hope Ironton minimizes the penalties and gets the win.

if raceland shuts ironton out well i'll--------------------------------------------------------------.
hain't gonna happen, the fighting tigers have a pretty solid offense. need a lil better line blocking on pass plays.
but this ain't gonna happen. no disrespect for raceland, because they play dang good football there. but this fighting tiger team means business now.

they should i think. i knew Jackson would not blow out the tigers like almost everybody was saying. and i honestly believe ironton is the more complete team between raceland and ironton, especially because of the schedule we've played. but those games are behind us. you have to keep thinking only one game at a time. well now it's week 10. hard to believe. but it's a playoff game Friday night in the tank. i believe if ironton beats raceland, we'll move back into the top 4 maybe 3. heck Jackson jumped from 6 to 2 beating ironton. let's be honest here. who would have ever conceived ironton and portsmouth in the ovc, i still have my reservations about that. and i never thought I'd see an ironton schedule with oak hill, or raceland. but ironton has went through growing pains adjusting to the retirement of bob lutz, and have went from AA, to d3, to d4, to d5, only missing d6 by 2 players. things have certainly changed. but the tigers are learning to win again.and it's time we put last year to rest and beat them rams about the head and facial area for 4 quarters.and get that settled and get ready to see who we play next weekend. we cannot or will not overlook a very fine raceland squad.

people say we live in the past about fighting tiger football. well you are judged in sports by your history, your past, your won, loss record. state playoffs, regional titles, state championships, and state playoff appearances. that's what sports are about. sure people are comparing these to other great tiger teams, they have a very rich history, and a couple state championships. that's what drives that team, and that's what you are remembered for. ironton is able to brag about stuff many teams can't. and they are glad to see that type football happening again in tigertown.--------------but more importantly you are known for what you've done this year. we have assured ourselves a winning season, a playoff berth, and that's it to this point. so that's an immeasurable improvement from the last 2 years. and that's what they are building on. sure we had 2 losing seasons, in what 45 years. and look who they played.

i had a discussion with someone the other day about us being in the ovc next year. my response was look back say the last 50 years at their schedule and tell me we are ducking people by joining the ovc. geographically if we are going to league up, and not be independent where else would we go. I'm talking strictly from a football prospective here. but if the other ovc teams don't improve ironton and Portsmouth will run roughshod over them.rock hill is in danger of not having a team next year. which is just unbelievable and inconceivable to me. my hope is that Jackson and gallipolis join as well. and that the ovc becomes a monster league, that rivals some of the betterleagues in the state. because the seoal whether charter teams want to admit it or not, is on shifting sands right now.

i think the move will be good for Portsmouth and ironton. I'd hoped for years these 2 would be invited to the soc but it didn't happen.they are playing so many soc teams anyway. but the kids deserve to play for individual honors, league titles, and league teams. and this will do just that. it will be a monster league in basketball ya'll.

I'm fine with that as long as we have the most at the end. frankly i don't see that happening.
but our secondary is a weak spot, and i look for the rams to try to exploit that. they've scored 372 points in 9 games and are averaging 41.3 a game , so they are tossing the rock a lot. it will be a stiff test for our secondary. and much needed heading into the playoffs. i look for ironton to flex their muscles on senior night. and make it hard pressed for the rams to get into the orange part of the field.that's just ole bait's humble opinion. anyhoo i hope we get to jaw with some raceland folk on here this week. and hear what's they got to say.

Key will be getting pressure on Raceland's QB if Ironton can do that then they will help the secondary a great deal.
Ironton's defense will need to step up to prevent the big plays but I do think Ironton will win this game.

Its only a good move in the other sports. Its a bad move for football. There's no computer points in it nor is there any revenue for it. Rock Hill, South Point, and Fairland are barely drawing crowds now do you think they will be busting down the doors to come watch Ironton and Portsmouth kick the crap out of them. No, nobodies going to come watch that so that means the gate will be down for every league game. As for league titles and individual honors that don't mean crap. What means something is getting to the playoffs and winning.

As for the game. Ironton has to stop Raceland's run game. Yes, Raceland can pass and they got one of the best receivers in the area in Messer, but last year their running game ate us alive. If we can stop their running back who is a beast Ironton can win the game because our offensive line will wear their defensive line out.

The OVC is terrible-if not worse than that. What TC71 said is spot on. It's good for other sports, but terrible for Ironton football. It might be good for Portsmouth football, but not Ironton. Big point games, like this Raceland game will be replaced by the likes of Fairland, Rock Hill, and south point. Those teams have a combined 5 wins this year. Ironton will then struggle to make the playoffs just as West is this year with 7 wins because those teams are on the schedule.

I hope West gets those teams off the schedule. You make no points, no gate, and the games are downright boring to watch.

Guys it's a money game at this point. It's expensive to play football let alone drive 1 hour and a half, with bus expense, drivers, etc.
School budgets are tight. A 7-3 season always has a team close to playoffs. 8-2 almost guaranteed. Yes it drives the quality of football down but it is what it is.

As long as Ironton keeps good teams with it's non-conference schedule they will be fine.
I agree it is a money deal.
Travel can be expensive and I am sure everyone is hoping that the Quality of football will be elevated in a few years with Ironton and Portsmouth joining.
It is a natural fit in all honesty and a win win for Ironton and the OVC.
There are several teams in the OVC that can be better if they get the right coach and get things in order.
Simply put there are to many natural rivalries in the landscape of the OVC to be ignored.

i just dont really see a difference of all the complaining about this topic!!!

not including week 10 games

OVC would produce 85.5 L2 points chesapeake 25.5, fairland 5, rock hill 9, coal grove 27.5, south point 9 , portsmouth 9.5!!! = 85.5

4 of ironton win this year amanda 25, st charles 5.5, meigs 19 , raceland 32 (if win)= 81.5

pretty much same thing !!!!!!!!!!

Not at all the same thing. 4 teams gets you almost the same thing as 6 teams in your league. That shows a weakness right there plus playing Rock Hill, South Point, and Peake at the end of the season does nothing to prepare you for the playoffs.

its the exact same thing !!!!

isnt ironton keeping burg , russell , ashland and one other ????

ironton would come out 4 points better with ovc!!!

its only different cause those teams are perceived as BAD TEAMS the points will be their

some those teams probably are bad teams(still have point value)
