Ohio Rules Vs WVA Rules

When you play in another state--you play by their rules. So, if a kid from a public school in Ohio transfers to another public school in state they have to sit for 50% of the season. If that same kid transfers to WVA and then plays in Ohio----should they have to sit till they reach the 50% number?

never hurd of such a rule. might be worng but couple years ago the kid from Tremble to NY and only missed the game with Tremble while they decided where he lived( tremble school dis. or NY )

Your eligibility is based on the school you play for, not the location of the game.

For instance, WV requires a 2.0 to play. Let's say Maryland requires you to literally pass a class to be eligible. Keyser, WV plays Fort Hill, MD. It doesn't matter where they play, if they are eligible by their state's guidelines, they can play.

I get that part of it Pioneer but I'm interested if that should change. You are going to see more kids transferring to WVA from OHIO so they don't have to sit if they are unhappy at a school. That seems to give those schools an advantage----one that would be negated if they had to sit out if they crossed back across the river.

West Virginia has its own transfer rules, including 365 days of being ineligible if the kid does not move into the district. Proof of residence is required.

If they meet that criteria, they are eligible. Their situation in Ohio is of no concern to WV, so long as the kid's legal guardian lives within the district.

Just like anyone transferring from West Virginia into Ohio is subject to Ohio's transfer rules, not West Virginia's. West Virginia's transfer policy is of no importance to Ohio in and of itself.

I may be misunderstanding you, though. Are you wanting Ohio's transfer policy changed?

I'm probably not making myself clear so I'll give you a scenario: Kid transfers from Marietta to Belpre---they have to sit 50% of the season.

Their buddy transfers from Marietta to Williamsburg-----Williamsburg comes to Ohio and plays Belpre in game one and the kid plays.

That seems wrong to me and gives Williamsburg a competitive edge over Belpre.

If the district doesnt like the rules then dont play out of state schools. I dont see how one state could ever regulate another state on their eligibility requirements. How far do you take it, what if one states academic requirements arent as stiff, KY schools start a week earlier, I think thats an advantage if an ohio school plays them early in season, some states have spring football, could be looked at as an advantage.

I like,"Your don't play them" idea but what if they are in your league? I don't want to enforce one state's rules in another state---I was just wondering what people thought about enforcing those regulations when they came back to their home state.

I don't see the early start, spring football, and having a bye week as comparable in anyway to kids moving schools and being treated differently.

There are pros and cons to every difference you listed but they are not seen as universally being beneficial or everybody would have them. If your All League kid transfers and plays against you----that's a disadvantage.

Regardless of where the games are being played if the kid is ruled eligible by a school under its states guidelines then the kid should be eligible wherever that school plays.

That would be a long road trip----I meant Williamstown, WVA. which has happened. But.... my question would still apply to a team from Va. Pa, or Michigan, or Indiana as well as West Virginia.
