Wayne, W.Va. in need of game

Post by Pioneer_PA »

Can play either September 5 or September 19.

Anyone have open dates then? Can't get a game in any corner of W.Va. at the moment.

Just to update, Wayne filled it schedule. Morgantown, W.Va. will play at Wayne October 3. It's a one year deal so I don't know if Wayne already has a 2015 deal with someone else in the works.

I bet a lot of schools don't want any part of Wayne. Year end and year out they have outstanding teams. They have as good of a tradition as anyone and chances are you're looking at an "L" when you head "out Wayne"

No, Wayne filled its 2014 schedule by getting the Morgantown game on October 3. The game originally scheduled for October 3 (Mingo Central) was moved to Sept. 26, and the game originally on the 26th was moved to Sept. 5 (at Sissonville).

I hope that Wayne and Chesapeake renew their series. Even though Wayne has owned the Panthers the last several years, it was the other way around a while back.

Other schools can learn a few things from Wayne's success. They haven't had any Joe Montana or Jerry Rice clones, but they've had kids who wanted to be Pioneers from the first grade on, with a coach who's involved with all levels of football in Pioneerland. I believe harmon learned this from Carl Ward at C-K, Lutz at ironton, and Brown at Massillon. Harmon doesn't hafta motivate his players to hit the weights and the track in summer; they do it automatically cuz they wanna play to the besta their ability. Success in the fall comes from work in the summer.

Peake and Wayne haven't played much basketball against each other, cuz, for many years, wayne would have no chance against Peake. But they still play baseball. Peake beat Wayne in a recent game.

Again, let's hope Wayne and Peake again play each other at football.

Wayne has a great program. Kids wanna play for a winner. But it is a big advantage playing in WV. The football there is bad bad. There has been years that Wayne has played for state titles that they may have finished third in our league. More than that the depth of the state is so bad that Wayne usually has a cake walk to the finals. Seems like the state game is their only competition.

^^^and you are really really dumb. It doesnt make ohio football better for you to throw water on WV football. the truth is that the lines between the two states have been closer the last few years. Our boys lost 12-7 to the eventual state runner up in d7 in a game we really should have won. And we only made it to the second round of our playoffs. Madonna beats either team in the Ohio finals this year. in AA, Wayne is clearly the class of our state. They are somebody that would be tough for most d4 teams in ohio to beat. the weakness in our state is AAA. not A or AA.

Good football teams will be good in any state. West Virginia has no where near the depth that Ohio has, but it shouldn't be compared to Ohio as a whole. West Virginia is much less populace.

I think the Wahamas, waynes, and point pleasants of the world have proven they could play with almost any small division team in Ohio. Could an average team in Wv play with an average team in Ohio, probably

The quality of football in Ohio is far greater than that in WV. No slander, just fact.

Check out this link. It's the 2011 AA playoffs from West Virginia. Wayne dominated every game.
http://www.maxpreps.com/tournament/Zw2m ... sac-aa.htm

Same season Chesapeake beat Wayne. Chesapeake was 7-4 and never won the OVC. Chesapeake had a good team but was an 8 seed and never won a game in the playoffs. I know West beat Chesapeake by 2 touchdowns the same season. West didn't win the SOCII and only won one game in the playoffs (almost won 2).

I no you can't compare scores but. I stand by what I said.

To go one further. Bucyrus Wynford. The team that beat West in the playoffs was throttled in the state semifinals to eventual state champion Kirtland 42-0.

Wayne has a good program, but they would struggle to have won a region in Ohio, let alone a state title.

In 2002, Wayne best Chesapeake, 41-0.

Chesapeake played for the regional championship that year.

Anomalies happen. The 2011 Wayne-Peake game was in 98 degree temps. Both teams were struggling with cramps, heat, and a combined 9 fumbles. Chesapeake also matched up very well with Wayne that year. Wayne shuffled its offense later in the season and never looked back.

Wayne beat Chesapeake 58-12 in 2012 and 63-7 last year.

2011 was the first time Chesapeake had beaten Wayne since 1999.

It's easy to pick one game.

BTW, Wayne is in West Virginia. What anyone thinks in Ohio is completely irrelevant.

I stand by what I said. Wayne has a good program. They could go into any small school league and compete. But their success is inflated because West Virginia football, at least in the small school divisions is bad.

By the way what people in Ohio think must be somewhat relevant because are southeasternOHIOpreps defending your team. :122249

I started this thread. Check in every so often. I'm a fan of OVC football as a whole and try to keep up with those schools.

Wayne's success is not inflated. It's against similar schools in its state. That's really all there is to it. No need for hypothetical comparisons. Opinions are something everyone is entitled to have.

No doubt wayne's current football prog is good. Coach harmon takes interest in all phases of wayne football from E-Team onward. I believe he patterns his coaching methods largely after Carl Ward, the C-K legend. Coach Ward's teams didn't have any superstars such as Randy Moss or J. R. House, but he had players who made themselves as good as they could be, and followed their assignments perfectly as possible. When I played at Vinson against his teams, I discovered what "interference' really meant when I went after the C-K ball carrier and was often "interfered" with just enough for him to avoid my tackle attempt.

Same for Coach Harmon's teams. They are a TEAM, with each player on the field at a given time performing his assignment completely. They stay their blocks on offense; they swarm on defense with every player staying part of the play until the whistle blows.

There are a lotta coaches on both sides of the river who oughtta learn from Ward and Harmon...be involved with ALL their area's football, coach emphasis on TEAM and carrying out one's assignment for each play completely, not just leaving it all upta whoever has the ball.
