Athens gave up 55 to a good Logan Elm team and only 38 to a very good Marion-Franklin team. That's an improvement on the defensive side. Marion-Franklin deserved to win and congrats to the Red Devils on the title. I'm sure Athens' offense would like another crack at things. Not saying they'd win, but doubt they score seven again. Athens had a very good season and two Elite Eights in a row is a fantastic accomplishment. The folks in Athens and Athens County should be proud.

On another note 93Dog...do you think LE-Athens goes on as scheduled for Dec. 14 or gets pushed back?

Sounds like Athens had a great season, but it also sounds like a case of a team with a notoriously weak defense finally getting put to the light. As many have said, it's great Athens can put up points, but they still lose if they put up n points and their d gives up n + 1 points.

Somewhat surprised by a blow out! Sounds like the bullpuppies could move the ball a little but I think mistakes size and speed plus Marion Franklin has played a tougher schedule! End result was a blow out!

Great year for the Bulldogs. Their defense played very, very well even giving up 38. The difference was size and speed and speed being first. When a runner broke through the line Athens just didn't have the speed to catch up to them before they had a big gain. Again great year it just happens that you ran into a quick team and dang they were big. at the coin toss Athens Captains looked like midgets. I'd say another 10-0 season next year and again a couple of playoff wins. Work hard.

Another point. Its time to move on from this topic and everyone from Athens and Athens County should now be over on the Trimble topic and talk about the Cats. The last team standing in the County.

Several Athens people not on SEOP's kept saying that Athens would be State Champions the next two years in football and also in boys and girls basketball. I guess not the case for football and I feel they shouldn't put that kind of pressure on these kids. Just let them play and see how things work out.

These are young men and women and pressure is part of growing up! Although, reasonable expectations should be conveyed to our young men and women, not unattainable expectations! Young people in high school 10-12 grade must be able to handle reasonable pressure and participation sports and attaining an education is reasonable. Life is a pressure cooker!

Sorry but the only hope Athens has of winning the state would be if the linmen from Trimble move into the Athens district. No question about the skilled players at Athens.

All three teams are good but their a lot of good teams out there and it takes a ton of breaks and good fortune to win a state title in anything. Some of the expectations being placed on these kids is unreal and some fans are delusional. Is there a great group of athletes in the school right now? Heck yes there are but state titles? C'mon now lets win a game on the basketball court and get through the season healthy and then maybe we can talk about how far you think they could go. As far as football next year goes....even though this great group will return nearly in tact, equaling the success of these last two runs will be hard enough let alone a state title. When it comes playoff or tournament time it all comes down to match ups, you can lose to teams that may not have the ability to go further than you overall but they may match up well against you and even excellent teams need a little luck along the way most of the time. Also remember, you don't have to be the best team on the field/court from day to day, you only have to be better on the right day. Upsets happen, teams find a way to overcome odds everyday and that will never change which is why we all watch the games. Enjoy these kids for what they are and enjoy the ride they take you on, league title, state title or no title. I've ramble on long enough, have a great day all.
