I look for his numbers to be similar to last week (300 or so yards and a few TD's) if the game is well in hand as it was last week.Orange and Brown wrote:I look for burrow and his receivers to have some ungodly numbers this week.

Arno won't be able to come up with a game plan this week to keep it close. Even if it were in the ref friendly confines of Alexander it wouldn't matter. Athens BIG.

Do any of the Athens folks feel like the TVC will hurt the Dogs' chances of making it out of Region 9? Looking ahead, do you guys think that finishing the year with Alexander, VC, Meigs, and NY will hurt Athens when they matchup with West Holmes, Desales, Brookhaven, Granville, etc?
Just a thought.

It didn't last year ... Athens ended up playing in the regional finals.Crab's brother wrote:Do any of the Athens folks feel like the TVC will hurt the Dogs' chances of making it out of Region 9? I am aware of that, but last year I think NY was a little better prep in week 10 than what any of the teams will be this year. Last year they also drew Circleville to sort of bring them back up to speed before playing Shawnee. I don't think it will matter this year if they get say Logan Elm or even Sheridan, but I am saying what if they open with Desales or a traditional power that will be a very drastic step up in competition?93Bulldog wrote:It didn't last year ... I think Meigs has shown that they a pretty good this year and I feel that they will give the same level of preparation that N-Y did a season ago. Will that be enough with tougher overall competition in the region? ....only time will tell.Crab's brother wrote:I am aware of that, but last year I think NY was a little better prep in week 10 than what any of the teams will be this year. This group has squared off against Thurgood Marshall, Springfield Shawnee, Gallia Academy twice, Circleville - and they were tested by a good offensive team in Fairland.
They didn't forget what it was like sharing a field with Thurgood - they will be just fine.

I am not saying that they aren't battle tested and I'm not saying they won't be fine. My only question was do you all feel that the weak competition they will see down the stretch may affect them when they take the large jump in opponent strength in the Region 9 playoffs. I guess what I am getting at is the running and throwing lanes they will see the last 5 weeks of the season will not be there or not be as big in week 11. I guess you all don't see that affecting the Dogs. That answered my question.93Bulldog wrote:This group has squared off against Thurgood Marshall, Springfield Shawnee, Gallia Academy twice, Circleville - and they were tested by a good offensive team in Fairland.

If I had seen it be a factor last year Crab's brother ... I would maybe say yes. But it wasn't, so I'm going to say no.
But I think the easier schedule might have actually helped the up-tempo style of Athens ... they looked fresh and ready to go in the 4th quarter vs Shawnee, which helped them stage an incredible comeback ... the Braves on the other hand looked wore down, beat up and tired after a tough season - and battle with Kettering Alter in week 11.

Is this coming from a fan of a team that's had a history of quick play-off exits?Crab's brother wrote:I am aware of that, but last year I think NY was a little better prep in week 10 than what any of the teams will be this year. When it comes to the playoffs it is all a matter of the luck of the draw. If athens had played thurgood in week 11 then we are not talking about a playoff run. What if athens had played alter week 11 and then Shawnee week 12? Would they have been beat up and worn down? I give them credit for making it to week 13, but I ask you show a little perspective. Athens may have made the region finals but they may have been the 4th best team in the region.

Maybe so catsandbucks ... but that wasn't the question asked ... Crab wanted to know if the so called soft schedule would hurt Athens in the post season; and may answer was no.
Also ... the schedule Athens played earned them the No. 3 last year - and the No. 2 seed the year before ... you get the better match-up by winning games and finishing 10-0 or 9-1.

It's a joke that Athens is in this league anyway! They will beat Alex by 60 like they will every other TVC team.

Re: Week 7: Alexander (1-5) @ Athens (6-0)
Funny how everyone suffers from short and long term memory loss. Just a few years ago Athens was (3-2) in the Ohio and finished 3rd - and lost at Alexander. For about a 20-year stretch NY beat Athens 18 times I think? Just shear domination by the Bucks. And didn't Athens lose to NY 3 straight times when it first came to the Ohio?Buckeye-4-Life wrote:It's a joke that Athens is in this league anyway! Just because they have a great team now (which also dominated the SEOAL teams this year BTW) doesn't mean they are all of sudden a powerhouse that is going to win 9 and 10 games every year.
Let it play out a few years Buckeye-4-life ... if your Buckeyes have the team we think they will - you could easily take back the TVC-Ohio titles in 2015 & 2016 ... if that happens, NY will have won 5 championships and Athens will have won 5 championships (if they win it this year and next) over a 10-year span.
How can you say Athens being in the league is a joke if that happens?
I won't rush to judgment and predict that's how it will play out - but if it does - the league will have looked pretty balanced over the course of a decade. Which is how it needs to be judged given how cycles work in high school athletics.

Re: Week 7: Alexander (1-5) @ Athens (6-0)
I'll admit, you brought up a couple good points. Yes they are dominating now but that may change after next year. I'm man enough to admit I jump the gun at times.
Re: Week 7: Alexander (1-5) @ Athens (6-0)
Excellent post. I said when Athens came into the league that they would not dominate football for long periods of time. NY has too much of a tradition, and has proven they can beat even some of the best Athens teams. VC can't stay down for ever, and Meigs will make a comeback as well. It seems Alexander has a program going down there that will also produce some pretty good teams. So maybe Athens will dominate other sports year after year, but I don't think that will happen in football.93Bulldog wrote:Funny how everyone suffers from short and long term memory loss.
