Sorry we didn't give you much of a game. Congrats to the Roughriders and good luck the rest of the way.

Jackson got off to a bad start and never really recovered. They just have to learn from the experience and get better. Very young football team with what I believe to be a bright future.

Great game by the rough riders senior load team just to strong for jackson youth. Ironmen will need to learn and grow from this but for mostly even mix on jr sophomores and few freshmen on the field the future is really bright so hang in there soon we will have 15 to 20 seniors on the field.

Now that I have a little more time...

I thought West Jeff just looked a lot faster than the Ironmen. They have several tall, athletic receivers who made a lot of plays for them. Those guys were very tough to tackle in space. The West Jeff QB was also a great athlete and really hurt Jackson in the running game too. Great performance by the West Jeff O-line as well, really sticking with their blocks and playing a very physical game.

Defensively, West Jeff was very fast and aggressive. The Ironmen were able to move the ball with some success after the first three drives, but they just couldn't sustain enough to put points on the board. The two INT returns for TDs in the second half put the game entirely out of reach, but the killer was the TD drive right before halftime to open up a 28-7 lead. The Ironmen had showed some signs of life cutting the lead to 14-7, but the Roughriders followed that up with two really nice drives to regain control.

Like I said, and have been saying all along, Jackson is a talented football team but they're very young. When you face good football teams that are also experienced, this type of thing happens. Things don't get any easier for Jackson the next two weeks, but in the end, this group of kids will be better because of this series of games. Time to put this one behind them and get ready for Athens next week. Still a lot to play for this season.

Games like this and next two weeks will make league play look really slow for the Ironmen.

Saw this being a much closer game than what occurred, although I had no delusions about it being a "W", West Jefferson very well coached, very experienced team and it showed.

They ran their system of offense crisply and efficiently, and fact of the matter, for whatever reason, Jackson simply doesn't match up well defensively against spread type teams. Which is scary because we will see it for the next two weeks against Athens and Wheelersburg and also against a much improved Portsmouth team. Personnel wise we are young, with half the team still not even able to drive themselves to practice, but we have to come up quickly with some sort of scheme that will at least let us slow down these types of opponents. The bubble screens, jet sweeps and read option in that formation simply is tough for us to defend.

Offensively, we started with horrible field position the entire first half, going 3 and out and punting and WJ starting at the 50 +/- on 3 of their first drives. Finally got our legs under us and started moving the ball in the second quarter productively, but still have to put points on the board against Athens and Wheelersburg. It would be nice to play keep away from those teams to limit their offenses by running the ball effectively and chewing up the clock.

Fact remains we are a young team and faced and experienced, disciplined WJ team and they were good at what they do (did), and there is going to be more of that style for 2 weeks straight. So keep your heads up, coaches make some adjustments, and keep a positive attitude and work hard.

A tough loss to a very good West Jeff team-kudos to them. They were explosive and strong. They swarmed to our backs and reciever. A couple times Jackson looked to have some confusion amongst each other and that is something that has to be fixed before this weeks coming game with Athens. Everyone has to be on one page. However, as we saw Saturday, our run game is being caught onto quick. I cant understand how we only throw the ball to Williams twice in a game..Utilize his size and strength! I would like to think we have THREE very dependable running backs which most teams are not lucky to have. But we have just that, THREE, #45 who is a big sized boy and runs hard only carried the ball twice! All three backs run hard but they need the ball more than two carries in these tough games. Those three backs also have nice hands, and need to be used more for passes as well. With all that being said I will be excited to see how the Coaches adjust and get the boys ready for this week with Athens. As always, GO RED!

Yep, accentuate the positives: Defense stopped them on 4th and goal with some brutal hard hitting plays in the second half, and almost held them on a 4th and goal right before halftime with 10 seconds or so to play. Allowed no points in the second half by their offense (the other 14 points scored were by their defense when we pressed to get back in the game). West Jefferson operated on a short field all night, "only" had 150+ or so yards rushing and about the same passing which usually doesn't equate to 42 points. Rafferty exploded a couple times for big gains doing a lot of that on his own, both he and Griffiths have that big play capability.

Work on the "negatives" that the coaches will identify in the film work. Maybe figure out a way to get Reagan involved on both sides of the ball. Would love to see him in the backfield this Friday night with Burrows.

Practice hard this week and STAY POSITIVE!!

That is the recipe for week 4 IMO.
