I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Wellston vs. Jackson took place in Week 10 in 1987 and 1988. When I researched NY football history, I found that NY vs. Athens was a Week 10 game in 1987 and 1988, but was Week 1 every other year between 1983-2007.

Last years team had little experience. This year that will not be the case. The kids that will be on the roster will have varsity experience although they never won a game by a bunch / with the exception of the Belpre game (the league Champs) I feel they will win a few games this season . I think they will have enough talent to win any league game, but the non- league schedule is brutal. Jackson-H Minford-H Waverly -A Gallia Academy-A . This will be Junior laden team with a few seniors Matt Lockard and Kevin King leading the seniors.Last season the kids seem to get down easy when behind, and just never seem to recover.I hope that they can get over that this year or it could be another long season.

The Jackson game is always a tough game for my Rockets . They seem to put so much more pressure on themselves to win and they seem to play tight . I hope the Rockets can just settle in a play a competitive game with the boys down south. No prediction here when you lose 17 straight its hard to come with a prediction of a win ,,but I have in the past  I have even contacted Maddam Appalousia in the past to break the spell and it didnt work ,so I am at a loss :?

I do hope for a good injury free game by both teams. This game will be here before we know it.

All I have to say is this game is going to be PACKED! How old is the Jackson-Wellston rivalry?

I don't have my record book with me right now, but Jackson and Wellston have played approximately 100 times. I'll post the exact record when I can, but I'm thinking it is something like 67-26-6 in favor of the Ironmen.

Here are the official numbers from the Jackson Football Record Book. The information for the book was provided by Randy Heath and compiled by former Jackson assistant coach, Pete Woods.

Jackson and Wellston have played 98 times, with the Ironmen holding a 66-26-6 advantage in the series.

Here are the scores from 1966, 1967, and 1968 that 2old requested. I'm only posting these for him because he was wise enough to move out of Wellston many years ago, haha.

1966 - Jackson 14 - Wellston 35
1967 - Jackson 0 - Wellston 30
1968 - Jackson 6 - Wellston 28

And here are the scores that JHS4EVER requested.

1939 - Jackson 19 - Wellston 0
1940 - Jackson 21 - Wellston 0
1941 - Jackson 25 - Wellston 0
1942 - Jackson 26 - Wellston 8

I am sure it will be a good game, no matter who wins because of the great rivalry. It might be all about the money, but it has become a tradition for those of us old enough to remember a large number of those games. I am really looking forward to it. The only thing I really miss is the big pep rallies we used to have.

The month of June is almost complete which means summer weight lifting is in full affect. Does anyone have any info on what kind of #'s each team is getting in the weight room?

Jackson beats Wellston so badly that the ghosts of the Wellston football players' great, great grandmas feel it for the next 30 eons.

boilermaker,

What does Wellston have returning on the interior lines? This is an important question because Jackson's strong point is always their interior lines. Therefore, the Rockets must be strong in this area in order to give themselves a chance to win.

Wellston returns everyone, only senior last year was a defensive back.

boilermaker,

I heard that one of Wellston's linemen transferred. Was he a starter?

I remember the Rockets being very young last year. The experience that those guys gained last year will have to be a plus.
