FINAL: Wheelersburg 34 Valley 3
FINAL: Wheelersburg 34 Valley 3
Real competitive first half as the first quarter ended scoreless. Valley would strike first in the game kicking a 31 yard FG to take an early 3-0 lead. Valley was looking to go into the half with a 3-0 lead, and thats pretty much when the wheels came off. With 1:30 to go, Valley was punting from around thier own 20, and the snap goes over the head of the punter, Valley players try to pick it up as it rolls into the endzone and Burg players fall on it for the TD. Burg lead 7-3 at the half.
Valley comes out to recieve the kick in the second half, and fumbled the kick at the 11, and WB scored 4 plays later to go up 13-3. Burg tacked on another TD in the 3rd to lead 20-3 at the end of 3.
Burg scored an early TD in the 4th and went up 27-3 and then both schools put some younger kids in to finish out the ballgame. Burg tacked on a late score in the 4th to take a 34-3 lead and the ultimate final.
Valley lost all momentum at the end of the half, and really didnt recover. The young Indians played a REALLY good first half, and fought all ballgame but as good teams do Burg put the foot to the throat and put it away. Valley had 5 turnovers in the ballgame, and Burg had 14 points off of those alone.
With 5 SR's on the team, I look for great things out of the Indians in the nest few years, but I think they showed tonight that they arent just going to be a pushover for the conference.
Good Luck to the Pirates for the rest of the season!
GO INDIANS!!

Wow, I was shockied to hear the quarter by quarter rundown. Sounds like Valley shot theirselves in the foot. Was Burg looking ahead to the Minford game or what was the problem or is Valley as good as some say?

Good first half for valley they shot themselves in the foot with the turnovers. But wheelersburg was just to much for valley, and its about time valley scored i thought they would never score j/k.

What people forget is the BURG lost 15 seniors from last year,Plus the head coach,Plus the starting qb the first game So they are fairly young themselves. But good programs don't rebuild they reload give credit to the Valley kids they played hard the whole game. They are heading in the right direction

To me the Pirates looked really flat coming out in the 1st quarter and then the fumble on the first play from scrimmage didn't help matters much. Luckily the Indians fumbled it right back to the Burg or they could have easily found themselves down 7-0 early in the game. The Burg just didn't seem to have any fire in them in the first half until they got that score on the botched snap to end the half. They came out looking like a completely different team in the second half and dominated the game the entire rest of the game putting up 34 unanswered points total, 27 of those in the final two quarters.
My hats off to the Indians for finally getting that monkey off their backs and scoring the first points against the Pirates since 2002 I believe. The Indians played very inspired ball the entire first half and in my mind actually outplayed the Pirates for all of the first half until thet miscue by the punting team to end the half.
Good luck to the Indians the rest of the season. I saw some really bright spots on that team and the future should be good for them. By the way, how is the injured player for Valley? Evans, I think. Hope the boy is okay and that it's nothing serious.
Now the Burg gets ready for the big showdown with Minford next week at Ed Miller Stadium. A lot is riding on this game. Playoff implications and a chance to take early control of the SOC II.

I really think Burgs O and D was very lathargic in the first half. Did they even want to play?? Valley took it to them with some good passing and took a 2nd qtr lead 3-0. But what hasnt been metioned is Burg got the 1st kickoff and on I think the 1st or 2nd play, Rb for Burg just coughed up the ball putting Valley deep in Burgs territory. Not really hit, just lost control. Not a good start but Valley didnt score on that ensuing drive. I would figure the way the Defense for Burg played the second half, someone absolutely Chewed ### and got them fired up because all they had was one good 20 yard reception and not much else. Burg rolled in the 2nd half. Great job for Valley by the QB and #7 (until he got hurt i think). Congrats to the Indians on a well played 1st half. Took it to the Burg.
The blown punt snap hurt Valley in that they were not in the lead at the half, but they were absolutely SMOTHERED in the 2nd half by the Burg D. O line started hitting people and the runners ran really hard for Burg in the 2nd. Burg receivers were making some catches in the 1st half but also dropping some good throws. Cant keep that up. This is the 6th week. Good luck to Valley. Good looking team.

yeah valley came out the 1st half and played really good & Burg played just enough to keep them out of the endzone! (Still no TD's in 6 years though Valley!)
I know you got the goose egg off your back but I felt kinda bad that you still aint tasted the endzone.
The passing game of Burg's was a lot better. I am glad to see them bring it out and attack that way. Mostly cause Valley shut them out on the ground and forced them to the air. But hey whatever works! Though the running game opened up later on!
Good Job Burg!
Valley, Good hard hitting bunch of kids!
Good Luck to you guys in the rest of the season!

Hats off to the Indians on playing inspired ball that first half. They came out ready to play and almost caught the Burg with their pants down.
Good job on the comeback win Burg, but that first half was some of the worst play calling I have ever seen. It was evident they didn't want to show Minford scouts much, but in the second half they had to run some real plays. The series right before they took the lead on the botched snap, they run 2 straight FB dive plays for no gain, then an incomplete pass on 3rd down and then on 4th down they run a screen pass to the FB to the left side, that even if it has been completed, would have lost about 5 yards. Didn't understand that series of calls, but oh well, they got the win.
I'm also curious as to why Craigmiles, 22 I think, doesn't return kicks or punts. He is clearly the fastest player on the team. I would think with him returning KO's or punts, he would be a threat to break one everytime he is back there. The kid has some crazy speed. I thought he should have been utilized more tonight on the fast turf and no, I'm not a relative, just a fan of the Burg.
Burg better come out next week with a little more zing in their step or they will have it handed to them on a silver platter.

Ahh, Faber, they keep Craigmiles rested for defense. He comes in, he runs hard, he is out. i see what you are saying. he is about the hardest runner we have and i agree, If he were in all the time, his speed would be a concern for the opposing D. But he is such a monster on D that they try to keep him fresh.

Agree 100% Burg was outplayed the entire 1st half with the exception of the botched punt.
Yes! Its not like they are going out to lose the game. The play calling in the first half looked like the 2nd half game of the Tony Lewis era...act like you have a huge lead and be conservative. The defense stepped up and made plays. Very Impressive.
Valley, for some reason just self-destructed once again. Congrats to Evan on finally putting some points on the board for the Indians.
