IF this goes through that would give the SOC

Burg
Waverly
West
Northwest
Minford
Valley
Oak Hill
East
New Boston
Clay
Green
Notre Dame
Symmes Valley
Western
Eastern
South Webster
Portsmouth
South Gallia

For football the SOC I would consist of....East, Oak Hill, Green,Symmes Valley, Notre Dame,South Gallia

SOC II....Burg, Portsmouth,West, Valley, Minford, Northwest,Waverly...all but Northwest would compete with Portsmouth

The big thing is do you try to add another school for the SOC I in football or do you add another couple and make three divisions in everything. The SOC has to make sure that what happened in the SEOAL doesnt happen here. If they just add these two then it would work and could still possibly have two divisions in basketball or make it three and have some OOC games be played intra league like they do now. This is going to be interesting. But good for the SOC

Interesting article. I hope both Portsmouth and South Gallia are admitted to the SOC. It makes the most sense for all involved. Good Luck!

I am all for PHS being added. I do not want 3 divisions. I think if you are D-II in basketball you should be in football as well.

West D5
Wheelersburg D5
Waverly D4
Minford D4
Valley D5
Oak Hill D5
PHS D4

is a great football conference and would make scheduling a heck of a lot easier!

^^^^^^

Makes sense to me. Question: What schools are in the SOC II that do not play football?

What would the SOCI look like in Football and Basketball?

Oak Hill and South Webster play SOC II basketball but not football. Oak Hill is in SOC 1 in football South Webster doesn't have Football.

IF Portsmouth and South Gallia are admitted that gives us 18 conference teams. Incognito asked, "What about Northwest?". I think that's the wild card when football is considered. They never have had solid football, so do you base your divisions by enrollment only??? And what about the girls?

I still would like to see an All Scioto County League and boot the rest - if you need to bring a school into the SOC why not add all Pike County Schools too? Waverly, Piketon, Eastern Pike, and Western

Boys/Girls
NW 228/191
Portsmouth 195/194
West 186/192
Wheelersburg 185/142
Minford 182/182
Valley 178/124
SW 129 (no football)/112
East 91/108
Green 81/80
Clay 79 (no football)/80
NB 44 (no football)/58
ND 38/43

I am all for Portsmouth in the SOC II. Other than football from time to time and basketball from time to time, they are not very competetive accross the boatd. To level the field, Portsmouth must add boys soccer. If not, no admission/ Every other SOC II team has boys soccer.

I don't know who makes the final vote on who's in and who's not. I do think that the powers that be can come up with a solution though and admit Portsmouth. Since the divisions are not the same now (some schools play in SOC I and in SOCII) I think they should base the leagues on a competitive note.

I say that mainly for Northwest's football program. If you are trying to turn a program around, you don't do it by adding Portsmouth. Now if you're established (Burg, West, Minford, Valley) sure, it's a better quality opponent.

Football can be a combined North/South and East/West. 13 of the schools have football. Divide that into 3 divisions.

North: Waverly, Northwest, Valley, Minford
South: Oak Hill, Portsmouth, Portsmouth West, Wheelersburg
East: South Gallia, East, South Webster, Green, Symmes Valley
West: Notre Dame, Clay, New Boston, Western, Eastern

Why would Portsmouth HAVE to add soccer? If people are going to go with that then New Boston should be kicked out of the SOC for not have baseball now and not having softball a while ago. As well as East for not having Golf.....

I was told by a very reliable source within the Portsmouth City Schools that PHS does not have to field a soccer team to be admitted to the SOC.......I would think, though, that Portsmouth would go ahead and field a team anyway.........

Portsmouth should absolutely have to add boys soccer to get in. Plain and simple it takes athetes away, and if were going to level the field they should have soccer. I know for a fact that at Minford there have been boys that would have helped alot on the football field but played soccer, if there were no soccer im sure they would've played football, and I'd venture to guess this is true for other schools too.

Portsmouth has a better record against the benchmark of the SOC II, Wheelersburg, than any other school in the SOC II.

This is definitely true if you combine the records of the 3 major boys sports: football, basketball, and baseball.....

....therefore, it comes back to the question -- do you want Portsmouth to compete with you in the league in order to strengthen it or do you want to maintain the "status quo pecking order" behind Wheelersburg by keeping Portsmouth out?

In my opinion, Portsmouth would add soccer in order to gain access to the SOC II...

actually west has more wins against burg than anybody else
Burg is 29-19-2 against west a winning record but still no one else has beat burg that many times
