I think you are correct Ty Webb. Everyone knows what's coming so why even narrow the field? It seems as though they are wasting some of these guys' time. Just name Phillips the coach and move on. They are also hurting the kids. Every day that goes by is a day that a lot of kids aren't working out and are wondering who their next coach will be.

What if they offer the job to Phillips and he turns it down?

It makes sense to go through the interviewing process in case they actually need to go to a second choice, in my opinion.

Why would Greg Phillips apply for the job, none the less, interview for the job....only to turn down an offer. That makes no sense.

Plus, people in Oak Hill are already grumbling about the whole thing. I saw Wellston and Oak Hill are hooking up next year. That'll be interesting.

I like Greg. He's a good coach and works hard at his job. I can see why he wants to come home and coach Wellston. Its just gonna be a weird transition going from Oak Hill to Wellston. Sorta like going from the Penthouse to the Out house.

Thats a little harsh there Ty , It wasnt long ago Wellston would have been considered the penthouse. Wellston went from 1996 to 2006 without a losing season. Two TVC titles and two playoff apperences, far from the outhouse. That with four different head coaches. The last three seasons have been a struggle but nothing most teams dont go through.

I think TY is refering to the facilities at Oak Hill compared to Wellston...not the job itself. Oak Hill has a fine new field and field house.

That they do, but Wellston also has a real nice grass field with new renovations coming this season and they have a real nice weight room for not having a new field!

Wellston did get a much needed set of visitor bleachers. What else is getting renovated gb? It would be nice if they leveled the old penn station and toms, to make a parking lot!

Not a shred of inside info but, why would Coach Phillips turn this job down (Ty Webb)? Maybe it's about $$$$. What if Wellston is only willing to pay a certain number of years. A lot of school districts only pay for 10 yrs. I am guessing he might have more. That could be a lot of $$$. Someone posted way back that he wanted/needed a new weightroom and a lifting class. Maybe the "powers that be" didn't/couldn't approve those things. Who knows? Amid all this speculation, maybe after the interview Phillps just decided he didn't want to go back and likes Oak Hill. I've said all along that I think the alumi thing gets a coach thinking, but he has a very nice team coming back next year. He might have scratched the itch with the interview and has a much stronger itch to return to the state playoffs again this year!!!! That ain't happening at Wellston this year.

I will be shocked if Greg Phillips is not named head coach at Wellston as early as tomorrow.

Did they do a second round of interviews or did they just narrow the field for, apparently, no reason? Goldenboy. . . what renovations are coming this year. I think they need to put in a new home side. The visiting fans have a nicer place to sit than the home fans who buy season tickets. They also need to repair the driveway/parking lot. I went up to a few games last season and thought I was going to have to do some auto repair afterwards.

They better sell a he!! of a lot of spaghetti if they expect to do renovations with that money. When and where is this taking place? Are they getting the spaghetti from the Lazy Italian? My family loves spaghetti. We'll have to be sure to go.
