Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
i thought our line play was very average if that with the preseason advertised size and hype.
i still think speed teams are going to hurt us all year.
dl isn't getting to the ball and pass rush has to be better!!
where were our lbs all night?
jarrell looked good!!
wow that back #5 is fast and the ilb fro athens was a player.
clagg while somewhat of a burst but with his size he is going to have to out run the defense,if not he will be hurt.
whats up with the continued delays and draws i think the offense looked like they were protecting jarrell with the play calling?
good luck next week blue

A great game. Big plays made by many Bulldogs. It took them all to win tonight. Congrats. A great atmosphere and big crowd. The game was intense and clean.

Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
Nice job as usual Jottings.. Certain stats point out why we lost.... In 40 rushing attempts we netted 96 yards, 78 by Taylor, we lost 62 yds rushing because of our pass protection.....We were 4 of 12 in the passing department and gained 16 yds.... We have some talent in the backfield and need to get these players in the open field more often.... And why with 2 minutes left in the game, at your 20 yard line and No TO's left do we run 2 plays toward the center of the field???? Make no sense at all to me.... The defense played tough but you need some kind of offense to be successful... Rehashing the game in my mind and a special hats off to Drew Young.. Had 2 monster hits on quick Screen passes and played an outstanding defensive game...

Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
Pictures of game up at http://www.gahssports.com
our defense played very well actually, problem was we had so many injuries that at least 8 guys played both ways, we had a 10-0 advantage and missed some other opportunities to score early.
That being said, we wore down in second half, but not because of lack of effort, the kids never quit!
it also wasnt lack of conditioning or preparedness I don't believe we had a single kid cramp up.
Our defense scheme was solid, the coaching staff on sidelines were calling out the offensive play as soon as they started to line up. That was a VERY GOOD Athens team. but yet our kids kept them in check most of the night.
We may have just seen the best linebacker(36) and running back(5) we will see all season.
give the kids and coaching staff some credit, they were well prepared defensively and for the most part out gameplanned a better team.

Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
The number of GAHS players on the sideline without pads did have a bearing on the game. At least two are done for the year. That being said we got beat and nothing should take away from Athen's victory. I do believe that being able to adapt to ingame situations is a weakness for us.

Congrads to Athen on winning a hard played game and never giving up
Gallia contained Sharp most of the night but the few times he got away he burned us for scores defense we looked pretty good. offense was kinda flat better figure out how to get pass protection or its gonna be a long year for the backs ,better clock management would help also we wasted a bunch of time in the 4 th qt not having anytime outs hurt also

Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
Gallipolis' sophomore quarterback had eight carries for 51 yards and a TD (had one TD called back) but Bulldog defenders threw him for six losses totaling 54 yards, thus he finished the game with 14 carries and a minus three yardage.
I thought Taylor's field goal was 37 yards, but they say it was 42. I think he kicked it from the 25 yard line. Will check with coach to see who was right.
That one-handed catch by Sharp was unreal. I'd like to see if we can get S. Logan down the field that way and heave him a bomb.
Drew Young put a couple monster hits on the Bulldog QB. However, Josh Skinner was able to complete nine of 13 passes (one intercepted) for 114 yards and one touchdown.

Re: Week 1: Athens @ Gallia Academy
Great job Jottings.... From where I was sitting the field goal was either a 42 or 43 yarder... And I believe it had some distance to spare.... Great kick Brandon......
