Please show some class!   As far as the Tiger clan goes, they may raise money to help the school but then again, the football players have to sell 10 of their cards every year at a dollar a peice, so again, the football program helps them too because lets face it, no one buys them, the parents have to donate the $10.00 because it is mandatory that every player sell them. Oh and that's from the seventh grade through the seniors. So, I think the football program helps itself too. It really doesn't matter what anyone on here thinks about us leaving the seoal, it only matters what the school decides and I am sure they will try to do their best for all the sports, not just football. I went to every game this year and at the home games the only visiting teams to bring very many fans were Ashland and Gallipolis. So why don't you guys back off and get a life!

speaking of class, anyone ever find out why the players left the filed in Jackson, and went into the stands, and started screaming at the coaches to come over ,so they could beat them up

All this talk of league titles. I dont see where its coming from. So you win your league unless you are in one of those huge leagues like what the Greater Catholic league or something like that in Cinncinnati or what that other one that encompasses most of the teams in Columbus I cant remember the name, but unless your in a league like that winning the league doesnt mean a whole lot. Its like yay we won the league ok lets go to the playoffs and win something bigger. I always thought the goal was to go to the playoffs and try to win a state. Maybe its just me that thinks like that.

SOC II is a good league with good competition. Based on the Ironton/Burg game the last two years, you probably wouldn't have won it either.

I would like to see the SOC II drop Northwest and pick up Portsmouth and Ironton, but I can't see it ever happening. SOC I doesn't want NW because they are the biggest school around. I would say Waverly Burg and West would vote to let them in. I would say Minford and Valley would vote against it. Most teams cannot afford to schedule 2 additional losses most years.

I like the idea of West and Burg leaving the SOC II and joining with Portsmouth and Ironton to form the nucleas of a very good football conference. Waverly would probably leave for the SEOAL. The rest of the SOC teams could balance out a more competitive league for them.

siderman,

I like the thought of Wheelersburg, Portsmouth-West, Waverly, Portsmouth, Ironton and Jackson in it. I doubt Waverly would join that make-shift league if Ironton was part of it though.

I doubt Waverly would ever come back to the SEOAL with all the butt kickings they took from 1970-1983 in Football. They began play in the SEOAL in the 1970-1971 School Year. Playing in the 1970 Football Season. Their last Football season was in 1982 and leaving the league at the end of the 1983 Spring Sports Season. Re-entering the SOC in the 1983 Football Season. To include in the negatives to re-enter the SEOAL would be all the travel they would have to do again.

Here is the history of Waverly's SEOAL tenure:

Waverly Tigers Tigers 1970-1983 The Tigers joined league in the 1970-71 season. While in the SEOAL, the Tigers competed against, Wellston, Jackson, Logan, The Plains Athens, Pomeroy Meigs, Gallipolis and Ironton.

While in the SEOAL, the Tigers won 15, lost 72 and tied 1 game. The Tigers left the league after 1982-83 season.

The Waverly Tigers returned to the SOC in 1983-84 season. Waverly re-entered conference play. They are a Charter Member of the SOC in joining that conference in 1946-1970.

I doubt that Waverly would leave to re-join Ironton again either. Here is Waverly's record against Ironton:

Waverly
Ironton leads series 19-0
Years Winner Score
1970 Ironton (H) 30 12
1971 Ironton (A) 14 8
1972 Ironton (H) 39 14
1973 Ironton (A) 50 8
1974 Ironton (H) 43 20
1975 Ironton (A) 6 0
1976 Ironton (H) 68 0
1977 Ironton (A) 34 14
1978 Ironton (H) 66 14
1979 Ironton (A) 22 8
1980 Ironton (H) 42 6
1981 Ironton (A) 49 15
1982 Ironton (H) 50 13
1983 Ironton (A) 49 6
1984 Ironton (H) 48 8
1990 Ironton (A) 33 0
1991 Ironton (H) 63 7
1994 Ironton (A) 24 3
1995 Ironton (H) 57 7

Maybe they would leave to form a league with Portsmouth though :?:

I think the three SOC II Schools could form a new league with:

Portsmouth-West D5
Portsmouth D4
Wheelersburg D5
Ironton D4
Jackson D2
Waverly D4

And that would be a really decent Southeastern Ohio League.

Then the New SOC II could replace the teams with:

River Valley D4
Wellston D4
Piketon D4
Minford D5
Lucasville Valley D5
Northwest D4
South Webster D5.....all other sports
Oak Hill D5.......all other sports

^^^^^^ I dont think Piketon is interested in going anywhere but the Scioto Valley Conference. We compete well in it and have our chances to win in all sports. Travel is OK, with just Westfall at just over an hour and Adena just under an hour, everything else right at 30 minutes. There are 8 teams, which means just 3 non league in football and 6 in basketball. Piketon is a founding member of this league, they arent going anywhere.

I dont see Waverly wanting to join a conference like that either, they fit well into the SOC II the way it is. They compete well in most sports. Why would a mid level team in their own leagues like Piketon and Waverly want to go into another league when they have a hard enough time of winning where they are at?

I think it is very important to win your league because there are only six teams that win the state. If you watched the Ohio playoffs this year I could not see any team in Southern Ohio winning the state championship this year in football. We place way too much importance on winning every game and not enough in how the sports develop are young men and women for the future.

I guess instead of asking us adults how important it is to win a league championship we should ask the kids.

You cant say that though that you dont see any team winning it from here. Ok yeah none of our teams made it, but suppose any team managed that one extra win to make it to the next round. Anything can happen on Friday(sat) night. Like last year Mooney was almost handed the title before the season started they go into half with a very comfortable lead and Coldwater didnt give up and they ended up winning the state.
Everybody loves to win if you dont place emphasis on it to your kids then you shouldnt even be in the game. As Herm Edwards says, "You play to win the game." The striving for perfection in a season is what develops the character of our young men and women. You strive for perfection and you hit bumps in the road like a loss or injury or whatever. Its at that point in the athletes career that character is made. Will they fold or will they perserve and continue on? If your not playing to win then get off the field.

One player left the field and why don't you talk to that player! I don't know what went on between that child and the coaches and it's not my business. I know during games kids can get emotional but does that make it right for adults to get on here and be smart alecks? If the adults can't show respect and class, how do you expect our children to?

I think our football plaers all have to sell discount cards, from area restaraunts, at 10 bucks a pop, so I wouldnt think tickets costing only one dollar should be hard to get rid of, but when you think of how many kids are selling them, then it does get tough,Im sure the same people get ask, over and over again..you know,,the people that are suckers and can't say no to kids
That's true, because anything my son has brought home, we do go the same people over and over again.
I know they sure were glad when my daughter graduated because she was a cheerleader and we sold patron ads, did car washes, bagged groceriers, sold ads for the programs and so many other things I can't remember. I do remember my brother asking me her junior year how many more years she had left. :-D I was wrong about the price of the tiger clan tickets, hubby told me they were $2.00 and they were given to the boys on a Friday and told to turn their money in on money. They have a game on Fridays, film study on Sunday and mine usually had homework to catch up on Sunday so for me, it was easier to give him the money. One of these days, I will show up at a Tiger clan meeting though. ;-) I do think the Tiger clan does a lot of good for Ironton sports and I am sure they help out all the sports. We just need more volunteers to help these guys out.

If your team actually won any league titles then maybe you would see it differently. Hard to get excited about something you can't win.

We got a huge trophy case full of league title trophies from both the SEOAL and the OKAC. Thats the difference in winners and losers. Winners always want more than some 10 team league trophy they want to big prize. You dont alwyas get it or get close to it, but the striving for it is what sets you apart from the rest of the crowd. Losers on the other hand strive for mediocrity in which they place a greater importance on being mediocre and never striving for something more.

In that case, Ironton should stay in the SEOAL.

I don't think we've ever seen a 4-1 team bring a smaller crowd to a game in the last 10 years. If GAHS or Jackson were 4-1 in the same situation, they would have had 4 times the crowd IHS brought to Logan.

IMO It aint about the travel or the loot, it's about getting your hat handed to you, and no longer being a league dominating team.
