He was offered but didn't accept the offer until the weekend of the Ironton game.

Justin Estes from Marietta was offered from Southern Mississippi shortly after the football season was over. They encouraged him to still participate in basketball and track.

As for the injury discussion, I would think it would be up to the coaches at OSU whether they would want him to play soccer or not. The benefits of continued kicking might outweigh the potential risk of an injury. I think it would be up to Mr. Basil, his family and his coaches.
