Really maybe you should keep up with local sports since West has 2 young men on the rosters of 2 Big10 schools. Other schools have had players go to D1 programs in the last several years. Granted all of them did not stay but if you think there isnt D1 type talent here you are wrong.

I said the county puts a few kids every few years but look at trotwood they have 16 kids that will play d1 ball. Some have already committed to Ohio state and Michigan. I don't think a all star team would even win the dv championship. Ohio has some of the best d1 schools in the whole country. It's not like other states where teams like valley west and burg could win the state titles easy. Only states with better players are Texas California and fl. Georgia and Alabama I think might have past us in rankings but I'm not totally sure.

Just a few years ago West was playing for a D-IV state title and you really dont think that you could win a D-V state title with a county wide all star team. Lets not forget Burg played for a state title before. Not to mention Portsmouth, West and Burg have all been able to go deep into the playoffs in the last 10 years. So yes IMO there is just as much talent in little ole Scioto County as any where in the state. The reason we don't get the D-1 schools down here looking at kids is because this area has had a bad reputation of kids going to school and not staying. Hopefully with kids like Cadogan, Pendleton and others being able to stick it out we will see more scouts heading this way.

My take: D1 players doesn't equate to a championship. Good fundamental football and team chemistry can overcome many obstacles. Can an all star team win a championship every year, No. Can an all star team win more regionals than not, I think so. I also think the talent level in the county is under estimated because it is spread out across 10 schools. You start combining some of these schools, and pooling the players, you'll elevate the level of play and competitiveness.

You also have to remember that the kids would be able to focus on a primary position as opposed to going both ways at their current schools. It makes a huge difference. As far a the remark about all the kids left without anything to do because they aren't playing football in a hypothetical large D-1 school....I say that's not necessarily true. Look at schools like Desales that dress upwards of 100 varsity kids alone!!! That's Jr's & Sr's only!!!! That's 40-50 kids per class. Then, you've got a JV team plus a Freshman team.....again, another 40-50 kids per class. Then you've got the aforementioned influx of kids at ND. You could still have 10-15 kids per class per current school finding a football team, depending on level of play (JV, Frosh or Varsity at either 1 public or the 1 private) school in the county. Come on people, think outside the box a little bit!!! Small-minded, short-sighted thought has ALWAYS been the strangle-hold death on Scioto County!!!!!

Build up a team at ND, circa the 70's & 80's :) I'm all for it!!

I really do think success due to elevated enrollment numbers at ND would be a hugely successfull ripple effect if the public schools in the county were consolidated. I think it would be really interesting.

I posted this awhile back from this thread:

http://southeasternohiopreps.com/forum/ ... 1&start=35

Distance in miles via Yahoo Maps.

Wheelersburg - Franklin Furnace - 6
Wheelersburg - South Webster - 12
Wheelersburg - Minford - 11
Wheelersburg - Sciotoville - 3

Minford - South Webster - 14
Minford - Sciotoville - 9
Minford - Franklin Furnace - 17

South Webster - Sciotoville - 12
South Webster - Franklin Furnace - 19

Sciotoville - Franklin Furnace - 9

South Webster to Franklin Furnace would be the longest trek... but a more centralized location would be ideal. However, are 15-20 miles really that far?

How many people work in Ashland, Jackson or Chillicothe and live in Scioto County?
