Because of the River Days festival, people in Portsmouth complained to the school.newarkcatholicfan wrote:Does anyone think the 2-2.5 hour trip after school will have much of a impact on West?
Anyone know why this was moved from a Sat game to a Friday game?

I will most likely skip this game and catch the Millersport hosting Bellaire St. John game.

Maybe they meant Portsmouth West?DIDO wrote:why would people in Portsmouth complained

Yes, I meant the people of West Portsmouth, I thought that was self explanatory since this was a Portsmouth West topic.Captain Awesome wrote:Maybe they meant Portsmouth West?DIDO wrote:why would people in Portsmouth complained

I would say the change was do to the river days pageant. The pageant is held on saturday night.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
I did hear several of the players have entered into the pageant.

No game is ever easy but this sounds like "easy" win for West.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
I would say it is highly unlikely this will be an easy win. NC knows how to win and will be fundamentally sound and not make mistakes that kill them, even if they are supposedly "down" this year.local superstar wrote:No game is ever easy but this sounds like "easy" win for West.

Don't pay too much attention to some of the post on this thread.tlce4 wrote:I would say it is highly unlikely this will be an easy win. This is what I was basing it on. And from a fan of NC at that.newarkcatholicfan wrote:N.C. IS D-6
They lost 18 seniors from last years team.
The would be starting QB played at MT Vernon last season and was all conference.
I think there are 5 or six other seniors playing and starting for other teams, that would have been part of this years seniors class.
I was told by some who took in the JV games last year that it was luck if the team moved the ball across the 50 yard line.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
NC is down by NC standards, which means they might not have a team that'll see past week 11 but still a good, strong team nonetheless. When the bar is so high, it's easy to say the boys won't meet the standard or are down.
(That's a part of how NC has always been good.)

Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
I dont think anyone who follows high school football thinks this is going to be a cake walk game for West, inculding the team and coaching staff. There is only one reason you schedule a smaller school like Newark Catholic than you are, because they are a perennial powerhouse that plays and beats bigger teams on a regular basis. This has the potential to be a good point game for West if they get the win. Good luck to West keep moving in the right direction and bring home a win.

Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
From what I heard in the scrimmage against Ridgewood last night NC looked decent, but Rwood won the scrimmage. NC will be down compared to last year but should be able to win 5 or 6 games. I'd say they lose to Granville and Johnstown for sure and maybe Watkins. West and Nelsonville and Heath will be good games. Not sure about the rest of their schedule.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
Is the older Coach Johnson coaching also at West? I thought that might of been him on the sideline at the preview?
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
How did Ridgewood win the scrimmage when they did not score? I was there, Varsity scrimmage ended 0-0. N.C. Reserves won 2-0.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
Really? Ridgewood has only won a couple games in the last two years. Oak Hill is ranked higher than NC in the preseason polls.Bodes well for West!

Really, Ridgewood has won more than a couple of games the past two years, went 5-5 last year and 6-4 in 2012.Pre season polls mean nothing.black76 wrote:Really? Ridgewood has only won a couple games in the last two years. Oak Hill is ranked higher than NC in the preseason polls.Bodes well for West!
