Good post, 92. That summed it up pretty well.
Sloppy win, but it's still a win. Now the Ironmen may have a chance to play for an SEOAL championship in Week 10. A lot of kids played sick and hurt tonight, so they showed a lot of heart.
Raymond Potter is the real deal. One of the most impressive performances on the defensive side of the ball that I can remember for a freshman. Bright future for that young man.
Get healthy, beat Greenfield, and then hopefully play for a share of a championship.

Re: Week 8: Portsmouth (2-5) at Jackson (3-4)
Well as Yogi Berra has been quoted as saying the second half for the Ironmen and in particular the 4th quarter was almost "deja vu all over again".
Last week after having beating Logan and controlling the game in general for 3+ quarters the Ironmen let one get away and then this week it sure did look like it could have been a repeat performance, but we managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat this week instead of vice-versa. Up 19-7 and driving for what I think would have been the dagger touchdown we give it up on a turnover, and then a couple plays later instead of 26-7 it is 19-13 and you just had that sneaking suspicion that the Trojans smelled blood and were back in it.
Nothing Jackson did was pretty tonight, but a couple observations. In talking to people this week's practice was so-so after what was a tough loss to Logan and apparently some kids still out and/or sick came together for a pretty flat showing for most of the game. But some leadership (or heart) starting to leak through and it is coming from the bottom up. Blocking the extra point was huge when Portsmouth tied it 19-19, if they convert then I believe there is whole different mindset for the kids and coaches on the final drive. Sexton (or ?) couldn't tell for sure who got it but it was big blocked PAT. Then the final drive was well executed, and capped with a game winning touchdown drive.
Potter gets a well deserved Player of the Game award, but to me the exclamation point in his performance tonight was not just defensively. But on the 1 yard line with a few seconds left, they enter him on the O-Line, and you didn't have to be a brain surgeon to figure out they were going heavy on one side and putting the ball in #45's hand and letting him follow the right side in for the score.
So let's put a "weak" week of practice and a so-so effort behind us, a win is a win, and focus on Greenfield McClain. Also, get out your voodoo dolls and hope Gallia can get it back together and knock of Logan somehow and keep us in the hunt for the SEOAL.
One last observation, this is not the Portsmouth Trojans of old, a year ago they would have laid down. Have watched them for the last 4-5 years and they have always underachieved given their athletic ability. When they enter the OVC in 2015...better watch out they are onto something, new attitude in P-Town.

Re: Week 8: Portsmouth (2-5) at Jackson (3-4)
One last thought lol to add. We went vertical for the first time since the NY scrimmage and the Wellston game, with a 40 yard or so completion from Sexton to #8 who is arguably one of the top 2 fastest kids on the team.
Can we pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase lol, keep that in the play book to keep some defenses on their heels. Once a game if not more we need to do something like that to keep teams honest. Sexton can throw, plain and simple, so I like the call. 8-9 people in the box can be effectively blocked for only so long. If defenses creep in and we get one on one on a receiver, let Sexton throw it.
And the quick out to Griffiths with Williams also spread out wide and blocking, tell me that won't work 9/10 times. Griffiths beats one kid and the other you know Reagan will handle and it worked for 20 yards last night.
I like it, shows we are developing offense and it will pay-off in games 9 and 10. And hopefully next year as well.
Ok, I am done lol. Time for a Week 9 thread.
