In that case, Ironton should stay in the SEOAL.
I don't think we've ever seen a 4-1 team bring a smaller crowd to a game in the last 10 years. If GAHS or Jackson were 4-1 in the same situation, they would have had 4 times the crowd IHS brought to Logan.
IMO It aint about the travel or the loot, it's about getting your hat handed to you, and no longer being a league dominating team.
great post that is probably right on. it was already said, if you cant beatem, find an excuse to leave.

Winners always want more than some 10 team league trophy they want to big prize. You dont alwyas get it or get close to it, but the striving for it is what sets you apart from the rest of the crowd. Losers on the other hand strive for mediocrity in which they place a greater importance on being mediocre and never striving for something more.
better take another look at those priorities. usually winners get the ten league trophy and then go for the next prize, not the other way around.

Re: Ironton leaving the SEOAL
Look when youve been to the top of the mountain you want to get back there you arent satisfied getting to the midpoint. People remember the guys that got to the top they dont remember the one that only got halfway. Thinking that a league title is enough to play for and that is some big accomplishment thas for teams that have never reached that pinnacle of success. Remember boys in life there are winners and losers. Loser settle for league titles winners strive to do something more and their fans expect more.

Well you see here in recent years where thinking like that has got Ironton.
Face it, your not what you used to be. Thinking that way has obviously got you nowhere.

Ok we havent won in the past few years and we havent been since 99, but in that time thinking like that has gotten us a lot farther than teams that just think about winning their league. Again you have never been to the top so you dont know any better than to aspire to be more than a league champion.

I would like to see Football stay Independent and the rest of the other sports get in a league.

I would say in those years we were or would have been league champions. So winning the league tells you a great deal about your football team.

1973 State Runner up-SEOAL League champ
1979 State Champs-SEOAL League champs
1982 State runner Ups- SEOAL Champs
1988 State runner Ups- OKAC Champs
1989 State Champs -- OKAC Champs
I'd say ironton did pretty well, while they were in a league. Ironton also played in 2 state championships in 1992 and 1993, in the first two years as an indy. However, after 1993, ironton has only played for one title. That was in 1999. I don't think it hurts us being an indy. However, to make a point to say that being in a league, doesnt motivate the kids to play for a state title....well, based on the numbers, just doesnt have any merit.

Re: Ironton leaving the SEOAL
Im just saying once you start settling fo rleague titles like some teams around here do you get complacent and thats all you aspire to be league champs. Soemtime you got to aim for higher than that. If you base your success on being a league champ and thats all you want thats fine. Some teams expect more than just some paper league title.
85, lets look at some numbers in 14 years out of a league Ironton has played in 3 state games for about every 4 years. With about 31 or so years in a league they have been there 5 times. So out of a league you got a better shot at playing for state.

Grizzley...Im not one of those posters that get on here thumping their chests on how bad we're gonna beat people.
I will say this tho, times have changed, Logan for now owns us.Will we ever be able to beat them again, who knows,we will give it our all thats for sure.
As I said times have changed Ironton at this point is clinging to D4 and not sure if we will be D4 for very much longer.
Back in the 70's and 80's we were bigger school wise.
I know this is a football forum but Ironton leaving the league, aint about football as much as the other sports.
People dislike Ironton for a ton of reasons,1 they couldn't beat them,2 Jealous of all the publicity they get or 3,They think all the Ironton fans act the same on here or in real life.Which isn't the case.

Re: Ironton leaving the SEOAL
Heres a good some good stats taken from the SEOAL .com site. These are all through the 2007 season so 2008 isnt in there yet. The next closet win percentage is .677. So the other teams still have a long way to go in terms of catching up with us.
wins losses ties winning % titles years.
Ironton (1925) 115 26 04 .807 14 25

Re: Ironton leaving the SEOAL
Well lets also take into consideration how long all these teams have been here too. Ironton tucked tail and left the league when the going got tough. Logan remained in the league through their "O'fer" seasons as did Gallia and Jackson.
Lets once again bring up a time in the program that the kids playing right now werent even alive to see. Ahhhhh yeah, the good old days. The days that the kids can only hear about today.
As for you BuckeyeCav, i was here after a Logan loss. I do believe you hid as you have for the past 2 years after we beat you. Your very lucky it was a rainy night or we'd hung 40+ on you.
Have a good day everyone

I can "cook numbers" too. Ironton, 1 championship title run in the last 12 non league years.
Also, from 1972-1991, ironton played in the SEOAL and only 1 or 2 teams in each region made the playoffs. Very easy to think that at the very least 1978, 1981 and 1984 Undefeated Ironton teams that did not make the playoffs, would have had legit shots at the title. Many in ironton still believe that the 1978 and 1981 teams were 2 of ironton's finest!
