Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
^^^^^^^^Sad but true. It is a darn shame that the OHSAA permits this to happen year after year. I really wonder how Ursuline will feel breezing through the playoffs again this year with no one within 30 points of them. I think it would kind of diminish the championship a little knowing you should be playing in Div I or II, and instead you are beating up on overmatched rural schools in Div. V.

Not quite, that's why we take the field. Ask Ursuline about 2003 Portsmouth West.fuzzhead wrote:No doubt that every playoff team in 5:19 has their sights on a regional championship, nothing more.selonmc wrote:Around D5, Ursuline University took down the mighty D3 Steubenville Big Red 24-3 in Steuby. Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
I believe that was 2002, not 2003. Also a alot different than this year. Ursuline had at least 4 regular season losses, and was not the power they are this year. They did not beatdown Division I,II, and III state title contenders like they are doing this year.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
To be the best you have to beat the best. I don't pity this year's regional champ for having to play them. Private schools usually kick public schools' butts in academics. No different in athletics. Just like private enterprise is always more successful than socialized. But I digress. Lol
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
The only thing I have against Ursuline is they've been D4 forever. I don't ever remember them being D5. Now all of a sudden they are D5 by 3 boys. You'll never get me to believe that a conscious decision was not made to control enrollment so that they do become D5. Private schools can turn students away while publics can't. They couldn't compete with Cardinal Mooney so they decided to drop down. Unknown to them Mooney moved up to D3, so Ursuline could have cake walked through D4 instead.
Take Ursuline out and I think the R19 champ could compete with anybody else in R17.

I think Alter and Ursuline would be a great game year in year out... but still I wouldn't want to win a stat title as a private school knowing I controlled enrollment or did not respect the spirit of the game. IMO most private schools are fine and I respect, but there are a few I question and unfortunately they are the one's that have been winning and getting far into the post season year in year out.

The Obvious answer is a duel State Champion, private and public.....we will never see it tho

Vlad, are those the numbers what you think the standings will be after this week, or at the end of the year?

Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Could you explain how Ridgewood goes from 8.5 to 11.3 after beating a 5-2 Division 5 team, while Caldwell only goes from 9.0 to 9.4 after beating a 5-2 Division 5 team? I'm not quite sure how that would work, but I don't know a whole lot about the points system.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
^^^^I agree, Caldwell should be either right behind the Wood or right in front of them.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
It has to do with the team they defeated and if those defeated team won, and the size of the school they beat. Ridgewood beat Garaway who was carrying a large number of 1st level points and Garaway is a D-5 school. Malvern and sandy Valley also won so that gave Ridgewood.
Caldwell beat Ft. Frye but no of the team they defeated won, so they only were to get credit for Ft.Frye.
Wheelersburg and Nelsonville York beat team with 0 or only 1 win and only one or two teams won they defeated prior. That's why if any of them lose one of the two games left, they're out.
Newcomerstown (5-2) [5:17]
Buckeye Trail (1-6) [5:19]
Barnesville (5-2) [5:19]
River (0-7) [6:23]
Beallsville (1-6) [6:23]
Frontier (3-4) [6:23]
Did any of these above teams win this weekend?
Caldwell: Ft. frye had 19 first level so add that to the 46.5 they have, so now it's 65.5/10= 6.55
Ft. Frye is a D-5 school worth 4 points so with the 22.5 they have add 4 so it's = 26.5/8 games, so that gives us 3.3125 add the second level of 6.55 and that leaves us with a total of 9.825

Okay, I guess it kind of makes sense now. Although, Caldwell gets points for the teams they defeated if those teams won correct? You said Caldwell beat Fort Frye but none of the teams they defeated won. I know that Frontier beat Valley, but that's the only team I believe won. I know it's probably not that big of a difference, but just tryin to help out.

Yes that will change it. That was a Saturday out of state game, so I didnt catch it. That will give Caldwell 10.275, and move them right behind Ridgewood for the 8th spot.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Caldwell had 58 2nd level points before this week. They beat FF, so that gave them 19, Frontier won, so that gave them another 3.5. Their total 2nd level points then are 80.5. So, their average should be 11.363, right in front of Ridgewood in 7th place.

You're right Ridgewood has 46.5 2nd level points, not Caldwell.
Re: Division 5 Region 19 in 2010
Umm, they just beat Big Red in a blowout and St. Edward (Division 1 title contender) earlier this year. They will probably beat Mooney this week. Stranger things have happened, but I highly doubt anyone in Division 5 will touch them. We shall see, but that is a bet I would take anyday of the week.
