Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
I want to thank Coach Curt Clifford for giving me a tour of the fieldhouse.......he explained everything in detail, and I was very impressed with how much room the building has........it's bigger than it looks on the outside........the coaches and players have a first class facility for the football program.
There is a total of 62 lockers in the players' locker room, and they are the same style and color (red) that the basketball players have in their locker room.
The coaches' office is a nice sized room, equipped with 8 lockers, and has a window placed right behind the south goal post.
Also included in the fieldhouse is a film room, training room, and storage room.......there looks to be a good amount of space for each. The film room is to contain a "Hall of Fame" wall featuring the greats of Portsmouth football.
There's still quite a bit of work to be done in the fieldhouse, so I doubt that it will be done by July 15th........but it should be done shortly therafter.
The scoreboard.........really looks sharp!!

Also did anyone notice on the inside were it said the Mothers Club would be selling shirts, it referred to the complex or at least the football part as the Coliseum.
Since the USC Trojans also share the name Coliseum, do you believe there will be a lawsuit?

Since we are "copying" the USC Trojans, why don't we copy some of their fight songs, too? I have asked about this for years.
My favorites are "Tribute to Troy" and "Fight On"

Where did our fight song come from anyway?

I'm not sure where it came from, but it is the same song as On Iowa, with different words but very close. Not sure where I heard it but I heard that we actually had the song before the Hawkeyes. Don't know how true that is maybe someone else can enlighten us.
For those that don’t know the PHS fight song goes like this. This is from memory so excuse any mistakes.
On Portsmouth on forever more
On Portsmouth proudly at the fore
Every loyal son will raise a rousing toast to you,
Every loyal daughter loves you too, rah rah rah
On Portsmouth you will ever stand,
The very best to us in all the land
We’ll be true to red and blue,
Our love will never die,
And forever sing the praise of Portsmouth High
Portsmouth High Portsmouth High
And here is On Iowa
On, Iowa, proudly at the fore,
On, Iowa, on forever more,
Ev'ry loyal son will give a rousing toast to you,
Ev'ry loyal daughter loves you true.
On, Iowa, with your wealth untold,
A heritage to us you did unfold,
Love of family, love of friend,
Love of country, too,
makes us proud for what you stand,
Our dear Old Gold.
And here is a link to the Iowa band playing On Iowa. (I.E. On Portsmouth, PHS fight song)

Re: Portsmouth Athletic Complex Pictures
I saw where they tore down another house and people were moving out of their homes in the phase II area today. Anyone know when or if it will be started?
