Well hasn't been on the high school staff that I know of ever so you might not.
I think he coached those great junior high teams years ago.

That's a good question. That should be brought up to the ones that make the decisions at Southern.
He played there. Apparently that's good enough for them..............................

Re: New coach at Southern....
He was an asst. varsity coach when Rusty Richards was head coach. He coached JV boys bball for a while and is a Southern graduate. A good guy and will do good job...just give him a chance!

Obviously, that is not good enough for you, and we all guess that is all that matters. Why didn't you apply for the job, since you disapprove of the hire?

I just don't think that playing for that school qualifies you as a good coach but that seems to be how it works there.

I think we have heard that with the last 6 or 7 coaches hired there. Problem is, none of them were given a chance. Too many people still think Southern is a basketball school. I look for this guy to have no more success than any of the others until that attitude changes.

Re: New coach at Southern....
I cant think of one guy hired to be football coach in school history who was worth a darn. We have a PLETHORA of football talent EVERY year in our JH program and then we fizzle at the varsity level. Who should we blame.....the janitor? Actually, I think we had a janitor as a coach once. "Yunior" is a southern guy and he helped coach many of those undefeated teams we have had. I figure us to be perfect this fall, epsecially if we can get the AD to hire the "right" officials......
Tyson Buckley....now he would be a GREAT hire as an ass. caoch. Is he considering?

Re: New coach at Southern....
Well when you hire someone who played in the program instead of branching out to someone different to try to change the culture you are going to get the same results every year.
They won't be successful until there is a total change in the attitude of the school and kids there.

I hear the new coach has the cattleballs collecting dust in the corner of the weight room....seems he doesnt much about weight training but expects kids will get better at football from running suicides and shooting free throws. just hope they don't try to dribble too much in games next fall......

What happened to the cornucopia of talent that the Tornadoes have had each year in Jr. High? Everyone throughout the TVC, regardless of division, have had the impression that Southern had talent busting at the seams every year going into the football season. Big difference between the PLETHORA and the "HORN OF PLENTY".....

Re: New coach at Southern....
Wow, sure are alot of people worried about the new coach and it looks like most of the people worried aren't even from Southern.
Re: New coach at Southern....
I wouldn't call people worried..Just anxious to see who would be dumb enough to take the job. Jr High football is a totally different level of play then varsity. It could be that other schools work harder when they get to high school and Southern awesome jr high teams just think it will carry over to varsity

I wouldn't say the coach is dumb, just wanted a chance to coach about like your coach did to take the Eastern job last year.

The big difference between Coach Tipton and Coach Witchline is that Dick has had several teams play in the state title game and he has even won it a few times. This is in contrast to thos almost champion banners hanging in racine's gym. What has Witchline done excpet be undefeated in JH ball?

Could not have said it better. I don't think Southern, no matter who they hire, is going to cause too many teams to worry.

Don't get me wrong coach Tipton is a great coach as matter of fact I told everyone when he came to Eastern that Eastern was lucky to have him and that he has built a successful program every where he has been. But what school did he finish as state champ or state runner-up. I know he was at Portsmouth west and an assistant at Ky. Christian University for a year. I know one year in the late 80's early 90's West or Wheelersbrug was runner up but I am thinking it was Wheelersbrug. Not saying it didn't just asking what year and what school.
