No doubt. Things will be different though not having games at the old field. I've never been one to like change if you can't tell.BRUTUS IS A BEAST wrote:I guess we just need to be proud of what we have and are getting because it is definitely a step up from where it was before without a doubt

The old SG field is going to be maintained for just that reason. All varsity games will be played at the new field but if there is a lot of rain the junior high could play a game on the old field if necessary in order to not damage the new sod on the new field. Not to mention, the old field will give SG a great practice field!

I prefer grass fields as long as they are mowed very short, no longer than 1 to 1 1/2 inches tall. Anything longer and it starts to look like someones yard instead of a football field.

Good deal. That should help out tremendously.

So every practice but Thursdays will will be on the old field once the new field has been constructed and ready to play on, that seems like an ideal situation to me for the football team. Kind of a disappointment that the jh wont always get to play on there own field though...

I figure the new turf will be treated like gold. The drainage and watering system will make a big difference. Now we need to get the right combination of clay and sand to stabilize the turf. Getting to play in the new stadium should be something special for everyone and should be treated that way. I believe at Vinton County the only games allowed on the new turf for 5 years were varsity football games. The Rebels have set up their scrimmages for the upcoming year on the road and with the first game on the road that should help the turf some what for the first year.
The last two years the field was mowed and kept very nice, that will have to be kept up will be even more important on the new field. The fence around the field should keep people from doing stupid things on the field like some would do on the old field every now and then.
I am very happy to see the new stadiums happening because I figured I would not see it. I want to thank the people involved for making this happen!

Remember all doantions must be split evenly between both schoolsmercerville monster wrote:Glad to hear as well. I have heard many things about the field at SG and heard that they got a pretty generous donation from someone in the community. Guess we will find out soon enough.

I thought personal donations could be made to where only the school it is donated to gets it? The only donations that I thought was split was corporate donations.Remember all doantions must be split evenly between both schools

I love playing on the newer artificial-grass turfs.
They are a HUGE improvement over the sand-based turfs and the old Astro-turf style. The turf at Baldwin Wallace in the early 90s was so hard that you could wear basketball shoes on it.

Alright, I tried figuring this out but was unable. Each school is getting a new track, fieldhouse, home and visitors side bleachers and field, correct? Exactly how much is each school investing in each of the facilities?
I ask, because Piketon is in need of new facilities for football. In our infinite wisdom when the new school was built in 01', they built a stadium that has a track, home bleachers, lights and a soccer field and left the football field in the original setting. This field was built in 1958 and there is no room for expansion. I have been told by board members it would take a million dollars to put football at the new track, I just wanted some ammo! lol
