Re: 11-2-12 BLOOM CARROLL @ IRONTON RD.1
Strength of schedule CAN determine quite a bit about a team, but in the end it's all a sham. I recall my senior year, reading on JJhuddle (before it was pay to post) about how we couldn't handle Chillicothe due to the SEOAL vs. the MSL-Buckeye. We did fine in that one. (Apples and oranges, I know, but the point remains the same.) What really matters is how each team matches up with each other. If one team loves to pound the rock and the other runs a 3 man front, it can be a bad match up. Likewise, an eight man box could get shredded by a pass happy offense. The match ups, people.
I didn't get to see Bloom this year because when Logan Elm played, it was in Carrol. BC has been... down every year when I played and since then, with one season with four or five wins. It's terrific to see them in playoffs; if it were a little closer I would definitely come down to watch as I have never had the pleasure of seeing Tank Stadium.
I think Ironton will take this one by 18-20 or so, but from what I heard about Bloom, they like to play physical.
Good luck Bulldogs! Represent the league!

I'm not "dogging" Carroll just bringing up the fact that they've only played in one previous playoff game. Coach Mauro will have them ready to play Friday night. Ironton better not take them lightly because the Bulldog players don't care how many times they've been to the playoffs they just want to win.LoganElm_grad09 wrote:Why must you "dog" other schools?

It was supposed to be a joke. Your moniker is "Old Bulldog." They're the bulldogs. Note the "dog" in quotes.
It's hard to note those things are jokes on message boards.

Going with the underdog. BC is not your average 5-5 team. They can play football. They are Big Strong and Fast. Just like the Tigers. Should be a great game.

WHAT A WEALTH OF TRUTH THAT IS THERE.
i was no star athlete by any means in fact i only got to play grade school, through my sophomore year, before blowing my knee up.i wasn't big , quick, or all that talented, but i know football to a very high extent. and have drawn on the things i learned at ironton through my whole adult life.i blew my knee up again, at fort leonard wood, mizzou again, 2 short years later in the army. then they found out i had a cornea disease, went blind for 3 years, and had 3 cornea transplants, and in 1984, i had a 22 pound block fall 77 feet at armco steel, and hit the top of my hardhat and broke my back.and through all those things i still think my background, of a strict discipline at home. and by coach lutz's coaching staff there, has helped me immeasurably to get through it.ironton is all about football, not about winning or tying for a league trophy, though their shelves are jammed packed with them too. there goal every year is to go undefeated and win a state title.and we are very spoiled as a town. hard not to do as a fan, given their excellence in sports.why teach a young man/or woman to strive for anything less than the best they can be at anything.

i see that from their schedule, they are battle tested, this team scares me more than an 8-2 team, that has had a weak schedule, and not really sure what they got. bc looks to have survived, much like the fighting tigers, who have licked their wounds, filled their bellies and ready to attack again.
everybody is 0-0 this week.

I'm with ya bait...ironton is hungry...but I'm sure bc will be too...I look for a good game, but from this tiger fan I hope to see the Tigers open things up like they did the first five weeks.

Re: 11-2-12 BLOOM CARROLL @ IRONTON RD.1
i would too buddy. and i look for that to happen.
we need to have worked on tackling, and sustained blocking during these past 2
weeks.and healed up physically. throw it all on the grass and see what happens.
i look for this to be much more competitive than i think many are expecting.
the tigers have yet to play their best game in my humble opinion.
time to put all the elements together now.
this is where the schedule pays off, week 11.
getting back to playing teams that have similiar enrollments , and depth issues as well.
if we don't turn the ball over and execute well, the fighting tigers will be a really hard out.

You are right. Everyone is 0-0 again. But I think you are right to be a little worried. This BC group is hard to discribe. No real stand outs like athens or piketon, they are a team of kids who seem not to want to be stand outs. Their defense is nasty. Their offense is kind of predictable but the kids run it well. I'm sure the coaching staff will pick up on some of BC's tendencies and will game plan for it but I think it will be a good game. Good luck to both teams and congrats on making it to the post season. You're Tiger Bait wrote:vctransplant wrote:Going with the underdog. BC is not your average 5-5 team. They can play football. BC sounds like a good hard nosed group of kids that a believing in what their coach is telling them...that is hard to find now a days...I do believe this ironton group is very talented...and if they play together and to the whistle and wrap up they can make it ugly on many teams...I guess we will have to wait and see if those talented kids show up ready to play come Friday...I feel Vass will have them ready

Re: 11-2-12 BLOOM CARROLL @ IRONTON RD.1
these tough bully teams are what has made ironton football what it is.
the mystique of the old professional team playing there, the ironton tanks, the ironton bengals.
the banners, the crowd , the band. the murals,
it's a gem of a place setting on the river of southeastern ohio.
everybody know of ironton's football prowess,
everybody comes in here with a chip on their shoulders.
they see the schedule, the wins/losses.
the 2 scenic greyhound buses when they roll in at away games.
it is the pride of ironton---------this ironton football
but-------------once they open those locker room doors at 7;30. EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME RECORD
everybody has the same goal, survive and advance, play the best game ever.
but all the mystique that is ironton football----------all that goes aside when the opening kickoff flies through the air.
everybody is equal then, 0-0 records, it's you against the world brother.
i look for this opening round game to be a dandy, and make no mistake the ironton haters/posters will be there.cheering for the tigers unser a cloak of deciet. for they want the fighting tigers to fall, as much as we want our fighting tigers to succeed and advance.these same people that mock and ridicule our team, behind multiple user names , will be right there mingled in with diehard fighting tiger fans. who want nothing more than to see their fighting tigers-----------and any local team, that is not in their scope to succeed.that's true fighting tiger football
RESPECT EVERYONE--------------FEAR NO ONE.

Re: 11-2-12 BLOOM CARROLL @ IRONTON RD.1
'Slingers' were soldiers who were proficient at using slings. King David used and employed such a sling when he slew Goliath.
You can think of them as archers who would lay down covering fire in front of the invasion force. During World War II you might've thought of battleships that shelled beachhead before the landing. Slingers were quite good with their slings. They could throw rocks or chunks of rounded lead that weighed several ounces, hundred of yards. One could well imagine what a stone, thrown with such velocity and that weighed as much as a baseball, would have done to a humane being. The effect was devastating

I know Bloom Carroll is playing something really good football of late but you just don't walk into Tank Memorial Stadium & come out of there with a win I'm taking the Fighting Tigers

Bloom Carroll plays near the big city----coming to the Tank will be something they will not be able to handle.pbuck wrote:I know Bloom Carroll is playing something really good football of late but you just don't walk into Tank Memorial Stadium & come out of there with a win I'm taking the Fighting Tigers
