we live in a depressed area ( unless your going to combine all schools into 1 big school) nothing is going to change , kids are far and few between down here in this area!!
rock hill will be lucky to field a team next year

if the object is to win state titles then yes i agree with you!!
but if object is to (win a league , and make playoffs ) then the outcome of this ovc wont be bad!!!
dont burg, valley , etc etc have something they play for???? (gold ball thingy)
ovc should start something like that next year!!

The goal should be to make playoffs and win state. Forget conference titles and all that meaningless crap. Burg, Valley, etc.. are in a league that actual gets you to your goal. The SOC is actual good competition, while the OVC outside of Coal Grove is cupcakes.

well we agree on the goals but if west beats burg and gets sent back to the last century when they play hartley (62-7) i think they will remember that gold ball more!!!!
just my opinion

So on the other thread your arguing saying Hartley is beatable (by ironton I presume), but you think they'll beat West like that? I don't follow your logic.cg-ironton fan wrote:i just dont really see a difference of all the complaining about this topic!!!
not including week 10 games
OVC would produce 85.5 L2 points chesapeake 25.5, fairland 5, rock hill 9, coal grove 27.5, south point 9 , portsmouth 9.5!!! = 85.5
4 of ironton win this year amanda 25, st charles 5.5, meigs 19 , raceland 32 (if win)= 81.5
pretty much same thing !!!!!!!!!!
All those ovc schools besides portsmouth just scheduled one more certain loss (Ironton) and a probable loss (Portsmouth) in place of two games they have now.
That's more reason for the SOC schools to get the OVC schools, except Ironton and Portsmouth off the schedule.
Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
Really people how many tittles has OVC won.
How Many has SOC won.
Point is Ironton will continue to play Ashland Russell till t hey get tired off being beat and Wheelersburg.
Ironton will schedule other teams that will help them prepare.
Fairland is having a down year but they are not that bad year in or out.
Chesapeake made playoffs a few years ago and about upset the 1 seed.
Coal grove is always a challenge.
South Point can be good if they get the right coach and Rock Hill is so spread out and have to many wanting their kids to play they mess the whole concept of best players play up.
OVC can be a good league and I think Ironton is a great fit for it.

Lets look at the reality of the situation and the state of the OVC. Reality is right now its a 1 team league with Coal Grove being the dominate team. Now every 3 or 4 years Peake or Fairland has a team that challenges them, but those are far and few in between. South Point and Rock Hill are bad and dont look to be getting better anytime soon. Yea, few years ago Peake played with the #1 seed, but mostly anymore those teams get in and they get crushed by like 20. So now you bringing in Ironton and Portsmouth so now theres the 2 teams playing for the championship every year while Coal Grove is #3. Its s bad deal all around on the football side. No one wins. Theres no money in it, no playoff points, no playoff preparation, and in long run it will hurt the schools like RH and SP because people get tired of getting crushed every year. They will lose players and could even cancel football.
Its a lose lose for every one involved.

cannon, I don't agree with you about league honors and individual honors. especially when kids are being recruited. this is very important to these kids. look at all those gold footballs in ironton's trophy case being proudly displayed and tell me they are not important.and say a kid is getting recruited, it looks awful good on a resume to see all those individual honors.
I do agree with 1 thing the mindset at ironton is go undefeated, win a state title. but if you don't that don't mean the season was a failure.especially with all the consolidations and private schools to get past.i remember an ironton 78 squad that I would have been a senior on, had I not blown my knee out my sophomore year that went undefeated. blasted everybody. and didn't get to play the last game of the season because a school district was on strike. so 9-0, completely dominated their opponents in the old seoal. and missed the playoffs, coach lutz has said he thinks it was the best team he ever had. that season was by no means a failure. it was a grand success, and the boys had their individual league honors, coaching honors, a very nice banquet and a big ole purty gold ball to put in the trophy case. so I gotta say I'm throwing a 15 yard personal foul on cannon on league honors meaning nothing.

I believe if a team is well coached and fundamentally sound then they can go far regardless of league affiliation,
Ironton will continue to play Ashland and maybe look for a long term series with Jackson.
And who knows if the SEOAL ends up falling apart that will leave options for Jackson or Gallia Academy to look to try to get in the conference.
Not saying SEOAL will fold and these teams will come calling or even be invited just saying it could happen.
Both teams would make the conference stronger and be a good fit.

As well as both of us travel it is a no brainer from a revenue (gate and concessions) standpoint.

So best team ever and they missed playoffs after dominating the season and your telling me they were happy with a party and some all league stuff. I call BS. I guarantee those guys were pissed off and disappointed at not making playoffs. For them it was a failure because of what could have been especially considering the next year they won state. So again playoffs trump individual honors. Let me ask you this when has Ironton ever been about individual honors? That's not Ironton.

Re: Week 10: (8-1) Raceland KY @ (6-2) Ironton
it's gonna keep getting tweaked. what I'm afraid to see happen is consolidation. I hope ironton can AVOID that. basically everybody in Lawrence county has brand new schools. and there are I believe 7 high schools in Lawrence county. st. joe has a beautiful older building, but they don't play football anymore. I like the rivalries it has created. and I saw what it done to river valley when all those county schools combined. I heard last night on the Columbus news channel 10. that they are pushing for year round schooling in the Columbus area.
they are wanting the kids to go like 80 more days a year. they said that they are worried that our kids are falling behind.
with all due respect to our friends in that profession, if the kids ain't learning, it's their fault no one else's.and the teachers are throwing a fit, because this would affect their 3 months off in the summer.and rightfully so. they go long enough if they are being taught.i spent 50 years in Lawrence county, and now 4 in pike county, and I can take you to houses that theirs kids graduated and they can barely spell their names. back when I was in school, you didn't get it. you flunked, just that cut n dry.

I think in the next ten years or so we will be seeing consolidation of several school not only in Lawrence county but Scioto county to.
Schools are getting smaller and money is not as available as before for these schools due to a shrinking tax base.
People won't like it but it may be no way around it.
