Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
^For week 7, 2015 season, Minford does have Gallia Academy in place of Rock Hill. That's a good pick up for Minford, and I hope that series continues for years to come. I agree Jackson or Ironton needs to be in the week 4 slot. With Oak Hill moving to week 2 next year for the Falcons, week 5 will be an open date. I could live with NW being in week 5, if Jackson/Ironton was a week 4 game. I don't see either of those teams being scheduled the week before the SOCII starts.

Excellent questions! I liked to know also. That group was very good. Are they still at Northwest and are they playing football? How many sophomores does Northwest start on each side of the ball? I'll tell you what, that group was athletic, had good size and flat out got after it.marshallman wrote:I know 2 years ago Minford and NW were both 7-0 going in to the last game of the year as 8th graders and Minford won 30-0 but NW did have a great team then. They would all be sophomores now? I wonder where they all went or maybe NW plays them all and they are a young team.
You are only as good as the talent you have and that group was talented!
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
Yes, it's very interesting to see which schools those students went to. Northwest? West? Valley? Maybe Minford or Portsmouth? And it looks like the SOC is going to remain unbalanced according to Oak Hill's 2015 football schedule. And that would be great if Minford could pickup Ironton or Jackson for Week 5, it'll probably be Jackson if they do add them since Ironton will be in the OVC next year. I would also like Minford to add Unioto for Week 3 in place of Paint Valley in a couple years.

Actually some of those kids from Northwest that are so talented would just be freshman this year. I believe they spent a couple of years in 8th grade. Sure nothing wrong with that as we all know it makes a team stronger and more competitive over the long run. And we all know lots of schools that do that to some degree or another.
Should be several really talented, athletic kids in the freshman and sophomore class at Northwest. Can anyone tell us if these kids are still playing football and still at Northwest? It would be exciting to see Northwest to have a really good team.

I may try to look into that if I can, was that in 2012? 8th grade?

Yes. I believe their 8th grade was pretty good last year also. Those kids are players!

Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
Bad news, Northwest doesn't have it on their new website and on their old website, the 7th/8th grade pages won't load for any year as far back as 2009 and all the other pages say it's not found on the middle school site. I'll do a little more looking to see if I get lucky.
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
well on the game you guys were talking about, it was Minford (7-0) @ Northwest (6-1)* Northwest had lost to Waverly and did lose 0-30 against Minford that year
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
how is it I can find the junior high basketball roster from 2012, but not the 2012 junior high football roster lol
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
I remember the Waverly game, I was there. Northwest QB was out injured. I believe they had some other key players out for disciplinary reasons. It was a great game and very close.GoBucks1047 wrote:well on the game you guys were talking about, it was Minford (7-0) @ Northwest (6-1)* Northwest had lost to Waverly and did lose 0-30 against Minford that year
If I remember correctly the Minford game was close until mid 3rd quarter or later. The Northwest QB was still out and possibly several others. Sure would like to know where all the kids are now. Thanks for making the effort to check on the scores!

90% of those kids that were on the Jr. High team are presently playing and almost all of them are starting. Like 3 freshman starting and 3 or 4 sophmores I think. I believe there are a few talented kids that are in the freshman class that decided not to play, probably four of five.

Northwest is a fine school with a lot of talent in their halls. To say no one would take this job is not true, a lot of coaches would jump at the chance to change this program and although a lot have tried and not been successful, it is possible. I don't think it would be easy but that is part of the fun. Good Luck to both teams this week.

I think they have the right guy for the job now. Brooks Fry, I see NW will win 5 or 6 STILL this year, just a gut feeling, I think vs. Huntington they let Rock Hill beat them "twice" ,just part of developing the football mentality that the NW kids will still need to learn to move on and not dwell on prior weeks, even if that prior week was a very critical game. We will see how NW responds to adversity in the coming weeks, still several winnable games on the Mohawks schedule, however I do not feel like this will be one of them, plus I am a homer.. Go Falcons.
Re: Minford Falcons @ Northwest Mohawks
Excellent and thanks for the update. My moneys of Northwest being pretty darn good the next two or three years. I saw that group play two years ago in Jr. High and I'm telling you what, they are for real!Jorge Sandusky wrote:90% of those kids that were on the Jr. High team are presently playing and almost all of them are starting. I saw them play a couple of weeks ago and what stands out to me is that there is no excitement on the sidelines, I like to see the kids fired up and playing hard every play. Just don't see it on the sidelines or in the coaches. And until they take the off season serious they probably wont compete. They have the talent for the next three years to complete in the SOC but there are a lot of changes that have to be made and first and foremost is the attitude of the families in that school district. Parents need to back the coaches and the kids 110%. If Frye isn't the guy for the job I guarantee that there are some young assistant coaches in the area that would like the challenge of taking over this program with the talent that they have in the younger grades.

Well, here's to an injury-free game with plenty of sportsmanship to go around, and hoping that does not turn into a rout. Someone please keep us updated if you can! Thanks!
