OVC 2009
Re: OVC '09
I know it's early, but I going to make my first prediction of the New Year:
Chesapeake, barring catastrophic injuries, WILL beat South Point. Lindsey is a fine QB and he'll have a pretty good line in front of him. Chesapeake always finds at least a couple of decent running backs and receivers to get the ball to.
South Point's major losses to graduation will be felt immediately because of the lack of experience and the lack of talent compared with the past few years.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: the game is at chesapeake this year - South Point will be playing on grass. Since 1997, South Point is 2-4 against Chesapeake on the road.

South Point played on grass this past season against portsmouth, point pleasant, river valley, and fairland. In These games South Point was 3-1 so I dont know what you mean by this statement.

Well I guess you can't/didn't read it carefully so I'll help ya. South Point since 1997 has only won TWO (Thats the number 2) times. When they played AT key word here is AT Chesapeake. Now his point is that South Point when they play Chesapeake at Chesapeake has a hard time winning. Any other OVC school has no effect on this out come.

Yeah I understand the thing about the record. But the comment about the grass makes it sound like south point can not play on or has not played on grass which is not true.So I dont know why he put that part on there.

I should have added the grass statement last, just for good measure. But I'm pretty sure you and I can both agree that there's quite a difference between the two surfaces. I definitely think we'll be hearing more about the differences in the coming years - Coal Grove definitely played better on turf than on real grass.
Also: Beating those teams on grass doesn't mean much at all, IMHO. Portsmouth was terrible and they still beat South Point, River Valley was destroyed by every decent non-DVI team they played, and Point Pleasant was one-dimensional. The Fairland win is the only one that looks really impressive.... for an OVC school.

Yes I do agree that there is a difference between grass and turf.Yes river valley is terrible but you can not sit here and say that
chesapeake would have competed with portsmouth like south point did and the panthers would have been run off the field by point pleasant if they played.

You dont know if they would have been run off the field cause they didn't play. Besides you wouldnt know what Chesapeake would show up.

You act like I'm trying to say that Chesapeake was better than South Point this past year

Chesapeake hit a low in 2007 - they finished 3-7 and they were awful - I couldn't wait for CG to beat them that year because Chesapeake had owned CG since 98 and they were getting arrogant about it. But there was no satisfaction in CG's victory in 07 - complete blowout.
Chesapeake was a lot better in 08, but still nothing special.... I think they'll be better in 09, while South Point will be a few notches down.

I think South Point will surprise some teams next season so dont sleep on the pointers.Although they will be losing ALOT but still have some talent in the program.

Why is it it when someone believes something on here you people assume that he is still on the team or close to someone on the team.So i guess what ever you two say is right and everyone one else who has an opinon does not matter.

I'm not sleeping on anyone. I think the OVC will be very close next year. I get the sense they're trying to build a competitive program - not just in the OVC but in their region.
Part of my basis for SP being down is the fact that a lot of this team got blown out in JV ball a couple of years ago against CG's JV - a lot of whom are seniors now.

I understand where you are coming from.No one should sleep on anyone in the OVC especially coal grove since everyone thinks they will run away from everyone else.

Re: OVC '09
I never said anyone would run away in the with OVC next year. I just pretty much said Chesapeake will be more competitive next year. I dont think SP will be as good as they was this year either due to the fact that they lost 11 to 12 seniors.
I know this may cause alot of drama or whatever ya wanna call it. Does anyone think that River Valley joining the OVC in football was a good idea? Since they have join the OVC back in 2002 I think they have pretty much been in the bottom of the OVC every year. IMO I thought Symmes Valley would have been a better fit. I know that they are a D6 school but since 02 I think Symmes Valley would have been WAY for competitve in the conf. Now I'm not bashing River Valley in anyway; I would just like for the OVC to be the BEST conf in the tri-state.

I never said you said that.I agree that South Point wont be as good as they were this past season. But they will be better than everyone thinks.

I really dont know much about Symmes Valley to say they would have been a better fit.But If people want the OVC the best it can be than yes River Valley should be out cause the only thing they compete in is volleyball.I could care less if they stay cause most of the time it will be an easy win for my school when they play.
Re: OVC '09
Not dissing Symmes Valley in any way, but while they were in the OVC, they compiled a 3-win 83-loss record (.035 pct).
River Valley has been pretty darn competitive in other sports -
boys' and girls' XC, track, Boys' and girls' basketball, and especially volleyball. Plus they're the same size as most other OVC schools.
The cons of their membership is the fact that they're so far away from everyone else, but that's really only bad for them because they spend the most money on gas traveling down to Lawrence County.
If any school was going to rejoin the OVC, my pick would have to go to Oak Hill.....

Well Symmes Valley say from 2001 till now is not the Symmes Valley of old. River Valley is WAY to far and IMO that makes it where they dont really have a rival with anyone I know of. Now, I know that River Valley is pretty good in other sports like you said Fuzz. We could turn the OVC back into what it was with teams from WV in it as well. Maybe we could go back to a 5 team conf again.

Ah, now as a Chesapeake fan and former player, you should know how well Symmes Valley competes against Chesapeake traditionally... hasn't Chesapeake beaten them like 19 years in a row now? And a few of those Chesapeake teams were REALLY bad. Symmes Valley fans are still clinging to the memory of the game they lost 6-0 to the Panthers back in the 04 season - easily the best year of Symmes Valley Football, period.
Symmes Valley hasn't done so hot of late plus they're DVI.
Oak Hill went 2-1 against the OVC this past year and they finished 7-3 overall. They're competitive in other sports as well, plus they're DV. They were in the OVC for a number of years and actually amassed an 87-86 record and 3 OVC titles to go with it.
They've also beaten Symmes Valley 3 years in a row and IMO they need to get out of the SOCI since everyone else in it is DVI

Re: OVC '09
Oak Hill in the OVC doesn't sound bad really. I think now with Norm as there Bball Coach they would RUN away with the OVC title almost every year like he did at Chesapeake.
Now the Chesapeake Symmes Valley game is ALWAYS close now sometimes the score doesn't show it but the Valley always plays Chesapeake tuff even more so at Symmes Valley. Now that I think of it they prob. wouldnt be a great fit. Dont have really good bball team in girls or boys. I dont think they have a track team or XC team. Now baseball and softball I think they could be competitive in.
