Yeah, that's another thing, kids go through different coaches going up the ladder. IMO, There's just to many factors to base 7th, 8th, 9th and even soph's on how they will do when they reach varsity. Lots of time in between there to be counting them out for losing some games in the lower grades.

The lower grades in Jr. Hi often are a reflection on size ( bigger kids) who can push around others. Todays game in H.S. places a premium on skill as passing proliferates and the read option creates finesse and as kids develop, the lower grades are worthless in judging future ability and wins/losses based on size . The key is participation and learning basic skills as in tacking and blocking. As each kid develops and is blended in with the best athletes from 3 grade levels, what emerges in a Varsity team often is an unknown until its there. Many surprise teams are built that way. The "stud" teams always stands out because they have some of the best at all ability and skill levels. So there are just as many surprise teams as there are studs and often , more.

I didn't mean to start a controversy. As they say on Wall St., past performance does not guarantee future returns. However, I've seen that when you have the athletes in lower classes win as a unit, it usually transfers to later success.

Lol I am sticking to my 67.32% linear correlation between success from youth to varsity.dazed&confused wrote:I didn't mean to start a controversy. But no matter what the case good luck to the Chiefs tonight and safe travels to all the Gallia fans making the road trip.

I think you started a good discussion, the kind of discussion that makes it worth posting on here.dazed&confused wrote:I didn't mean to start a controversy. I agree that the most important thing winning can do on the lower levels is make winning a habit.
FWIW - the 7th graders finished their season with a 5-3 record. I know they lost to Jackson and Zanesville. I know they beat Chillicothe. Not sure of the rest of the schedule.

Locos,
The 8th grade also finished the year 4-3-1. ( IMO, I do not agree in ties) They ended up beating Zanesville Saturday. That team was 6-1 with their only lost coming from Stubenville. The Logan 8th grade team finish 3-5 the previous year, and winless during their pee-wee years. I agree a 100 % percent that winning in the lower graders creates a habit that is necessary during Logan's rebuilding progress. Logan has a bright future, but Jackson is the jewel of the league at this moment.

A lot of people don't agree with Paladin when he talks about talent in southeastern, Ohio..........Take his views to the top level in football which is the pros....80% of pro players come from major cities in the USA. Southeastern Ohio does not have a major city. Southwest may have Dayton and Cincinnati-Northeast might be Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown----what is in the Northwest...Akron...The odds are against southeastern, Ohio when it comes to advancing on to the pros. Southeastern, Ohio has talent but it doesn't come to very many per-team and that what hurts coming to play-off games. Another thing this area does not get the look at from mayor college scouts because of the poor showing in play-off games. It take a outstanding team in this ares to bring scouts. Wouldn't be too many showing up if it wasn't for Athens. When you have a game like tonights game between Ironton and Jackson you might get a few. I have been following high school football going back to the late 50s and we just have a hand full of players going to major colleges and starting on those teamsPaladin wrote:The lower grades in Jr. Hi often are a reflection on size ( bigger kids) who can push around others. Logan 28 Gallipolis 7. Chiefs lost starting QB when he was evicted and top rusher early due to an injury and still won easily.

Re: (Week 9) Gallipolis (4-4) at Logan (3-5)
One of the craziest games I have seen in person. Logan did a great job of fighting through adversity (some self-imposed) to find a way to win. The purple were dominant up front on both sides of the ball.
Losing McBride early in the game and then Little early in second half could have been costly, but Logan's control of the line of scrimmage took care of that.
Credit to GAHS for fighting hard. Their kids played hard and well, but Logan was the better team on Friday.
Blue Devils will be better next year. Lots of kids back, maybe a few from the hallways to add depth, and they can be a solid football team. Good Luck against Jackson next Friday.

Locos, will Little miss the game with Athens next year due to being ejected with only one game left ?
