Very well put Bulldog! I couldn't have said it better myself. Now back to coaches i'll reiterate again Amyx was the best at Logan during my time and probably best ever,if Perry or Boyton had stayed longer they might have been in the conversation.Just not enough of a sample size as both coaches had the fortune of inheirting some pretty good classes93Bulldog wrote:Includes them too.Phoenix31 wrote:If your limitation of SE Ohio excludes areas around Portsmouth, Ironton, and Wheeling, then I agree with you.93Bulldog wrote:O.J. Mayo - southeast Ohio?
Katie Smith - best ever in southeast Ohio - IMO.
Best I have ever seen, hands down.
Katie Smith is, was, and probably will be the best ever. She could have played volleyball or thrown shot-put for any major college in the country after she was named Gatorade NATIONAL athlete of the year her senior year. Instead, she chose Ohio State to play basketball and led the Buckeyes to the NATIONAL championship game while being named freshmen of the year in the COUNTRY. She has played in WNBA finals and is widely regarded as one of the top 10 or 15 players of all time in her PROFESSIONAL sport. I can go on and on, but if she really wanted to prove her worth as the best ever in southeast Ohio, she could just walk around with her three gold medals around her neck that she won in two different decades.
I don't know of one single athlete from southeast Ohio that has earned those types of accolades. In fact, you could put her in the conversation as one of the best ever from the state of Ohio!
BTW, I'm from Athens. I hate Logan. They were our long time rival. But I'm willing to give credit where credit is due. And Katie deserves all the credit in the world. She was flat out amazing.

Greatest Football Coach in SE Ohio history is either Ed Miller or Bob Lutz.
Take your pick.
Katie Smith is not the best athlete from SE Ohio. Accolades or accomplishments alone do not make a person out to be the best athlete. There are numerous athletes much more talented than Katie Smith. End of story.

Re: Greatest Coach In Your Program's History
You can defend her all you want around the ultra-liberal section of SE Ohio. It still doesn't make her the best athlete ever from SE Ohio.
There are countless high school athletes that were better athletes than her who never made it to college or the pros.
Keep dreaming Logan and areas surrounding.
She isn't even the best female athlete to ever come from SE Ohio.
Again, medals and accomplishments do not make one the best athlete.
BTW, I am attacking the issue. You continue to attack me and that is a no-no on this site.

Re: Greatest Coach In Your Program's History
There are some dandies out there but for the greatest ones I have known in no particular order: Coach Bob Lutz, Coach Burcham, Coach Triplett, Coach Amyx, Coach Saunders and A old Coach at Chesapeake that I forget his name. Theses guys all had different reasons that I loved them as coaches.
Not sure what being a great athlete has to do with being a great coach. It doesn't always go hand in hand.

Re: Greatest Coach In Your Program's History
A won/loss record is not necessarily indicative of a coaches greatness and his ability to get the job done when the horses aren't in the stable, imo! Lucasville Valley has been fortunate enough to have stability at the coaching positions since the mid-late 70s, in Paul and Donnie Miller and the current coaches in Darren Crabtree and Scott Rolfe. Both sets of coaches, in their own right, have elevated the school's program under their stewardship.

same old site.
nothing has changed
still the same blowhards who cannot see past their own shirttops to realize that excellence in an athlete is not measured by awards but by ability.
to say that katie smith is the best athlete that se ohio has ever produced is a slap in the face to ALL of the athletes that have come from se ohio.

No it is not.Phoenix31 wrote:to say that katie smith is the best athlete that se ohio has ever produced is a slap in the face to ALL of the athletes that have come from se ohio.
I was a 3-sport athlete from SEO and I feel nothing of the sort. Slap in the face? Really? That is as ridiculous as some of your posts.
I'm beginning to think you have a problem with a female being regarded as the best?
it's not just her accolades, which are far superior to anyone from this area. I witnessed first hand what kind of special athlete she was. After she dropped 50 pts on us (Athens) in one game, she sprinted over toward our end of the court and jumped up, grabbed the rim, pulled herself up and yelled in celebration. I have yet to see a 17 year old girl do such a thing. A few months later we watched her win a D1 state championship in the discuss when she threw 157 feet to break the D1 state record at the time. She then walked over and won a state championship throwing the shot-put 46 feet, which was also a state record at the time. Bottom line is, she was an absolute freak of nature and her unbelievable college and professional career validated what we already knew - that she was the best we had ever seen. I have only witnessed two other HIGH SCHOOL athletes who were far and above their competition (physically, athletically) that they appeared to be men playing against boys (or woman against girls) ... One was Gary Trent (Hamilton Township) and the other was Carlos Snow (C.A.P.E) ... But I have never watched an athlete from SEO dominate like Katie Smith did, and the fact she did it versus DIVISION I talent once she hit the post season, was even more impressive.
Re: Greatest Coach In Your Program's History
Either that or someone's butt is still hurt from Katie putting a beatdown on their team.Either way give it a break phoenix, everyone knows YOUR OPINION by now.Let the people have their topic back so we don't keep arguing with you, which is what you want I think :12224993Bulldog wrote:I'm beginning to think you have a problem with a female being regarded as the best?
