We all understand. Congrats on the Jeaux years, well deserved regardless of league with a terrific D1 caliber qb. Other than those years, 1990 with another OU coaches kid at QB in a 7-3 regular season and shutout loss to DeSales in rd. 1 and this year which will probably be around the same outcome with Hartley, there have been no other playoff years. I applaud both N-Y (17 appearances) and Trimble (15 appearances) for what they have accomplished over the decades for Athens county in the playoffs . If this, if that, would be, etc. is bull. Canal went 9-1 and didn't make it this year because of their conference. Much as with the TVC, in the OCC if you play bad teams you shouldn't be rewarded. Two teams on their schedule had a winning record, sound familiar ? We'll see what happens Friday night I guess.93Bulldog wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 3:34 pm What everyone fails to understand is that you first have to get the chance to play a team like Hartley. Athens is what, the 10th or 11th best team in the region? But we're still playing week 11. DeSales scheduled up and they are getting ready for basketball right now. Every year is different, but in this case (2018), if Athens played Jackson & Waverly they might be 7-3 and getting ready for hoops too.
What made this year so different was that every single team on Athens schedule had a down year & a few teams had tough schedules on top of that. Even still, the Bulldogs don't stub their toe at Fairland - they are hosting a playoff game for the 5th time in 8 years.
And it should actually be 6th time in 8 years had it not been for a 31-30 loss at Logan in 2016. The Bulldogs were 8 points (loss to Canal 21-14) from being 9-1 and a top 4 seed AGAIN.

Athens has made the playoffs 5 of the last 8 years. They will more than likely make it the next few years in a row. Be interesting how you spin it

The big thing Athens loses is a lot off the line. Athens will have a lot of speed next year. This team is more a ground and pound team. They stop the run well.

No spin here, have NEVER won a playoff game without Burrow under center and were outscored 69-7 in 1990 and 2011 in those other 2 games combined. It'll probably be around 100-14 in 3 games after friday.Raider6309 wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 4:45 pm Athens has made the playoffs 5 of the last 8 years. First off I'm not from Athens, nor am I a Bulldog fan. Do I think they can beat Hartley,no and neither can the other 99% of teams in SEO. If we haven't heard at least 10,000 times or more that Athens withdrawing from the SEOL, was the start of the demise of the league, then we've been living under a rock. Why are the kids that are in school now and are playing now, how are they responsible for what happened years ago? The kids also have no say as to what league they are in, whether it be the TVC or another league. Believe me the Coaches and the Kids both know the odds they are facing when having to go and play against a team like Hartley. It would just be nice if people and the fans would want to not only support Athens, but all other SEO teams that were fortunate enough to be able to make the playoffs.

I like how Athens just gets 'discredited' for winning anything because of one player.FANOSPORTS wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:13 pmNo spin here, have NEVER won a playoff game without Burrow under center and were outscored 69-7 in 1990 and 2011 in those other 2 games combined. Or just shrugs off the fact that Joe was in fact an Athens kid, grew up here, went to grade school here, the whole nine years.
I mean, what, are we going to take away credit now from Trimble for having the two boys from Corning a few years ago?
How about NY when they had a kid from Wellston AND Trimble?
At least Joe grew up in Athens, played pee-wee football with his Athens teammates.
And while Joe was great, there were 3 other D1 players on that team and a RB now at Georgetown ... All Athens natives, born and raised.

Fact: Without that "1" player you wouldn't have made the playoffs let alone win a few games in them.93Bulldog wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:59 pmI like how Athens just gets 'discredited' for winning anything because of one player.FANOSPORTS wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:13 pmNo spin here, have NEVER won a playoff game without Burrow under center and were outscored 69-7 in 1990 and 2011 in those other 2 games combined. Ha!!!! That is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen on preps.
If Joe doesn't move here in the 3rd grade, Ryan Luehrman would have turned out to be one of the better QB's Athens has ever had under center. They would have still gone to two, maybe even three regional championship games.

Not all are Athens natives, Trae didn't get to Athens unil 8th or 9 grade when his dad got on Ohio's coaching staff93Bulldog wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:59 pmI like how Athens just gets 'discredited' for winning anything because of one player.FANOSPORTS wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:13 pmNo spin here, have NEVER won a playoff game without Burrow under center and were outscored 69-7 in 1990 and 2011 in those other 2 games combined. True, Trae was not born and raised. But Saltzmen was. Athens still would have won playoff games with Z in the backfield. Once he got his opportunity his senior year, he ended up having an incredible season. He is/was one helluva tailback, which is why he's playing college football.

It's unbelievable how many kids have switched schools just to play football, especially down on the river. Yet, Athens gets chastised because one kid & his family move here 17 years ago. They actually bought a house, the dad is still employed at the University & mom a principal at Eastern. They are a part of the Athens community as much as anyone. If you start out at a school in the 3rd grade, stay throughout and graduate from that school - you're from that school plain & simple. You're not a transfer, transplant or whatever the hell you wanna call it.Raider6309 wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 7:25 pm With your guys logic Wheelersburg, Jackson, and Ironton have never won a playoff game with just local kids

I'm not sure about Clay. Have never asked. I know he's been here since start of high school, which is 4 more years than some Jackson Vikings, I mean Ironmen.fireball wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 8:03 pm how long has your qb this year been in your system just wondering?
