WK 5 Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) 34 @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1) 14
Week 2 of the SEOAL rolls around and the Trojans find themselves in a familiar position. Their old nemesis Chillicothe is coming to town and they're once again one of the biggest and fastest teams in Southeastern Ohio. These young Trojans are starting to find their way but they need to eliminate mistakes and score early and often to take this one.

Re: Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
Could be a tough one for the young Trojans, but they are getting better every week. I think they will give Chilly everything they want next Friday. I'll go with the Trojans in a close one PHS 24 CHS 21. I put 24 because we will probably miss 4 extra points. Kicking game for Trojans is as bad as it gets.

Re: Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
I think a quick start is a must for the Trojans. Chillicothe is talented but I don't think they play to their abilities every week. If we build confidence we could be right there. It'll also be interesting to see if the running trio of Royster/Jordan/Johnson is here to stay or a one week wonder.
Re: Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
portsmouth98,
I think you're exactly right. If Portsmouth can get some confidence early, they could be right in this game. Against Jackson, the Trojans got that early INT return for a TD and kept the game close early on. They ended up playing with a lot of confidence and took Jackson right down to the wire. I believe that Portsmouth is better than their 1-3 mark and should have a good deal of success the rest of the way. That young talent is developing nicely.
Good luck to both teams.

Re: Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
If Portsmouth can put together an effort like they did vs. Jackson.......overall improvement in all areas,(even the kicking game.....2 out of 3 extra points, good for us) I think the Trojans have a shot at winning this game. Chillicothe is a good team, but not overwhelming. Caleb Knights is a talented quarterback, and it will be important for PHS to contain him. The Cavaliers need this game to continue to climb in the computer standings.
Always look forward to these two old rivals going at it!!

you know, I always say our kicking game needs improvement, and actualy thought they was a big improvement in the jackson game,
like Dave said 2 out of 3 extra points is good for us,,and if you was at the game,,all 3 snaps was bad snaps, to the holder, if we can work on the snap and get it back there right, the kicker and holder will not have to be in a hurry to do their jobs.....if the line also gives them time,,,but I have to admit,I liked what I seen out of our kicking game last night

Re: Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
Should be another great game as always. Remember the 2006 game down on the river? WOW, now that was a great game, with Beeler running in for the (2 point conversion) to win the game by one point with seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter. Then, there was last years stacked Trojan Team that took it to our CAVS at home in the first half, only to see our CAVS close the gap and came close, but the Trojans hung on to win.
This game has always been one to watch in SE-Ohio. Old time rivals with lots of history behind them.
Good luck to both respected schools in this old rival. May the game be an injury-free one and one that is exciting and filled with thrills as this series has usually been over the past few decades. Portsmouth is Chillicothe's only real rival in the SEOAL.
Zanesville is the other old rival for our CAVS from the former C.O.L. days, but Chillicothe has only played Zanesville 3 times in football since the CAVS left the C.O.L. after the fall season in 1976 for the OCC-Ohio Division in the winter of 1977. Then we began to re-play the Blue Devils again as a fellow SEOAL Member starting with the expansion 2006 season. Last night ended that series once more, now that Zanesville is leaving the SEOAL after a short three-year tenure for Independent Staus. Although Marietta was in the C.O.L. with Chillicothe all those prior years too, there seemed not to be the same rival between the two schools in football and other sports as Zanesville was for our CAVS.
So, Chillicothe's only rival left in our new league the SEOAL with long time standing, is the Portsmouth Trojans. May the series continue for years to come.

Re: WK 5 Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
How is Chillicothe looking this year? Not hearing a lot of noise from the Cavalier faithful.
Re: WK 5 Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
portsmouth_98,
The CAVS are a veteran squad this year, just like your Trojans were last year. Caleb is playing his A game, the line is starting to jell. The defense is crushing the running game. Even in the Sheridan game they were able to stop Sheridan for the first three quarters, but Sheridan's size and strength finally blew the game open. Plus the rain caused a lot of turn-overs, mostly on our CAVS. The Generals were just too big.
The CAV receivers are starting to jell as well as the CAV running backs. After that comeback win up at Zanesville this past Friday, I have to say, they have made some believers of the Chilly faithful. If the CAVS play like that, the rest of the season in 4 quarters instead of 2, they will have a shot at the SEOAL title. Especially, if they can contain their composure and keep on doing what they did at Zanesville in the second half. To win the SEOAL, we must win this weeks game at Portsmouth first, along with a few more.
One game at a time.
I noticed that they do not quit this year. Two games they came back. The Big Walnut game and Zanesville. They almost came back in the Brookhaven game but just ran out of time. Last year if they would have been down in the 4th quarter 21-7, there seemed to be a tendancy to stop playing to full potential. The seniors have really stepped up this year. The Senior leadership is really showing up this season, that's the change I noticed. Last year, that element was lacking on the CAV Team.
We have Ironton and Logan at home this year. So if nothing else, that's a plus for our CAVS. Logan is in week 10 and Ironton is after the Portsmouth game. Our CAVS have been on the road for all their games except the Sheridan home opener.
The CAVS are big up-front and fast for an SEOAL Tream. As stated, they barely lost to Brookhaven 14-7 up at Columbus in week one. The CAV line was horrible that night and did not protect Caleb. Since then, that has totally changed. Thanks to Coach D and his staff.
The next week they defeated the 2007 D3 State Football Champions, Big Walnut on their home field at Sunbury 24-21.
The third week, they were just out played by a larger Sheridan Team from the MVL that pretty much man handled our CAVS on our home field at the Hernnstein 34-14.
Last week the CAVS were down 21-7 going into the 4th quarter and came back and won the game 24-21. The CAVS should of scored two more TD's in the 4th but due to mistakes made by some linemean they were not able to. They had an opportunity to win the game 35-21 instead of 24-21.
As always, the CAVS-Trojans game should be a dandy
Good luck.
May it be an injury-free game and one that is filled with absolute outstanding sportsmanship carried on by these two respected old rivals.

Re: WK 5 Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
Portsmouth is still very young but getting better each week. I think Chillicothe will present a new challange as we haven't seen a quarterback like Knights yet this year. Our defense has been able to apply minimal pressure and hopefully the offense can keep them fresh again this week and they can really get after Knights in the pocket. Against the run we've been so-so. We have some speed on D, but bigger backs, especially hard running ones have really been able to hurt us at times.

Re: WK 5 Chillicothe (2-2 1-0) @ Portsmouth (1-3 0-1)
portsmouth_98,
What does Jackson have this season? I thought you guys were going to pull off another win over the Ironmen.
Are they still for the most part a running team, with that mid-line option? What kind of passing scheme do they have? Do you know what their defense is like?
Last year we defeated the Ironmen 21-7 at Chillicothe, but got blown out by them in 2006 at Jackson, right after we defeated Logan and Ironton on our home field in 2006.
I hope we don't play them like we did in 2006, when everybody had us crushing them and getting surprised. I think our CAVS learned their lesson well in 2006 of not taking any SEOAL Team lightly. Especially, after that game.
Jackson is our last away game. We play you all at your place making it our 4th away game. Then we have Ironton and Gallia Academy at home then go to Jackson and then play our last two games at home against Warren and Logan.
Good luck this Friday
This will be the last time our CAVS will be playing on the old Portsmouth Field right? Doesn't Portsmouth start playing their football games at the new sports complex starting with next years season?
