Our sister site Bucknuts.com is reporting the Chillicothe kicker Drew Basil has been offered by Ohio State.

Basil (6-2, 188) also has offers to Purdue, Air Force, Kentucky and Cincinnati.

"I received an offer from Ohio State today," Basil told Bucknuts. "I've been talking to coach (Greg) Gillum since I went to their camp (earlier this month). I talked to him again on Monday and he said they had one more kid they wanted to come in and watch. He said to call him on Saturday.

"I gave him a call (today) and he asked me if I was still interested in being a Buckeye. I said I am so he said he is offering me a full scholarship."

Congrats Great offer.

With this offer will he play both Football and soccer this year for the Cavs?

I don't think I would play soccer.

Congrats and good luck to Drew, alot of great kickers have gone through Ohio State and I'm sure you will make a great addition to that Buckeye tradition.

wouldnt an injury sustained in soccer or football for that matter affect the scholarship?

I understand the value of being a kid and playing with your friends.
But be realisic, the value of that scholarship could be risked if he is infact injured playing soccer.
Anything can happen.

nonsense.

2 months = $150,000 or higher.

not worth it. be safe and good luck at the next level.

heck, just practice kicking then..
dont even play football and just work on fundamentals because you could get hurt.

do you think tressel would tell this kid to play soccer

he was a very good soccer player before he stepped on a football field

Curt smith was in the same position the drew is in. Ohio State offered him a full ride in track. Curt decided to play football with his class and the team made playoffs.

Should have Curt stayed with track and not played football? ?????

The cavs football fans are happy that he risked injury and decided to play and so are his team mates

this does bring up an interesting question. after a player commits/letter of intent, does the college have the right to say "ok, we dont want you playing any other sport"? i would have to think that all major college programs do this, jmo though.
