CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
Is the folks out at Rock Hill satisfied with the direction of the program?

For the coach to be there as long as he has, with the direction this football program is going(declining more and more each year), it has to be a political thing.
Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
I think Rock Hill and South Point have both been bitten by the same bug......

It is not just the Head Coach at RH it is a combination of things. So some of these apply and need to be addressed before a winning team can consistently be on the field year after year.
1. One reason is just the BS politics that has gone on at every OVC school. Those effects are hard to fully measure.
2. Stadiums at Chesapeake, Fairland and River Valley. Which is getting improvements.
3. Some schools thinking a newer stadium is all they have to do to win.
4. Some parents/players think being good Youth Football or JH players/teams means they will be good in High School. So they tend to remember the past more but High School game is a lot harder.
5. Attitude with a lot of that coming from what is mentioned in #4. It should not matter what your last name is or who you know to influence a coach decision on who to play.
6. Poor offseason and weight programs or dedication of those players that are there. Takes a team not just a handful of players. As well as what schools provide to make it happen during the offseason.
7. Poor grades by some
8. Lack of interest or motivation. Takes up to much of their time

Good post. Everything you listed is positive at NY. That is why NY wins every year. So if you are looking for a model to follow, look no further than NY .farmer wrote:I posted this on the Topic - Strength of OVC

Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
I agree that we are struggling to get out of this funk. The difference with us is we only have one school in the whole county. No one is exactly knocking down doors to move here. There is no industry here. Economics, and demographics plays a big part for us. NY has more players on the field than we do and have well over 150 less boys in the school. We are so spread out that kids cant get to practice in the summer and parents cant afford to get them there. Some kids live closer to other schools than our own. We constantly loose players to other schools for multiple reasons. Its tough seeing it like this but I dont believe it is coaching. And there is light at the end of the tunnel. There has been much improvement. Keep it up Vikes.NY BUCKS wrote:Along with vinton wellston..

Yes, the students from Vinton, OH go to River Valley, but I think they are talking about Vinton County High School, located in McArthur.Dundas wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the kids from Vinton go to River Valley??

Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
From what I hear from a guy at work whose son plays for Rock Hill, they are riddled with injuries and are playing lots of freshman with no experience. So maybe that is why they aren't winning. Though he says the coaches need to be replaced too.
Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
The changes of most of the other coaches in other sports will have to be seen if it has been positive or not. If the attitudes of players, parents and anyone who tries to control things are changing. It is the players who must put in the time during the season and offseason in a positive way. Those players must do it as a team.
The new coach needs to get players who want to work hard to improve year after year to earn playing time. Not getting playing time from outside influences. As well as working with all the different levels of football. To help promote a positive attitude for players, parents and fans. Until things change it continue to put out the same results.

Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
When I spoke with several former RH players who played during Coach Knipp's first few years, they had nothing but praise for him, and those teams won mosta the time. Hard to believe that coach has gone that far downhill. Even Lombardi needed talent to win, and there might be a dearth of talent in RH right now. Not those boys' fault; a kid either has natural football ability or he doesn't. But again, I know nothing about the politix lately at RH; I might be missing a whole lot of significant items.

They played South Point, and were totally dominated.

I think you should worry about your own backyard, before you worry about someone elses backyard. :122249tl895 wrote:if they played they lost .........abuck76 wrote:Who did RH play last night and it sounds like they lost......correct?..... :12224

Re: CHANGE NEEDED IN REDMEN COUNTRY!!
In my opinion this isnt a problem that occurred over night and it won't be solved overnight. However I would like to offer a couple thoughts on this situation:
When I was in school (70s and 80s) Rock Hill had a good football program. It may not had been dominant but it was good. When I went to grade school(70s) there were 7-8 grade schools in Ironton and they all had their own football teams. I know population was greater but the principle here is the same. At the dame time Rock Hill had grade school teams at Kitts Hill, Pedro and Hanging Rock. They had about 75-85kids in grades 4-6 in those three grade schools that were learning the game and out of those three teams at least 45-50 kids were playing a lot each week. They were learning and falling in love with the game. It is very important that in the grades 4-6 that you learn the game and get kids playing.
At some point, it became more important to win games in grade school than to get kids playing. Rock Hill got to a point where they only had one large team playing in the grade school league. They would have 50-55 kids but with one team only about 15-18 kids played most of the time. Maybe it was a lack of volunteers? I don't know exact reasoning but that decision in my opinion has led to a decline in high school participation and thus success at the high school level.
Also, I would say that by starting kids playing tackle football in first grade seems to lead to a bit of burn out by the time they get to the varsity level.
