Interesting read, it makes sense to have the finals placed in locations closer to the participating schools but there are other reasons besides travel distance for poor attendance.

Over saturation of "live" video coverage on TV and social media/you tube. Why go when you can watch from your couch?

And a follow-up to too much media, is poor weather in late November. Again the comfort of home.

Finally, the popularity of hs football is in decline as it competes with other falls sports. There are just fewer people interested in attending the games.

Move the state finals to Mapfre stadium in Columbus. Plenty of seating and parking and centrally located.

Also, in the article in 2017 in DV one of the State semifinals was played at Chillicothe.
