Athens County enrollments for K-12

Post by NYBuckeye96 »

The Athens Messenger today has a chart with enrollment numbers for all five school districts as they stand today.

Here are the numbers:

Athens - 2,578
Alexander- 1,504
Nelsonville-York - 1,201
Federal Hocking - 1,006
Trimble - 790

Like most of southeastern Ohio, the districts keep losing students over the years.

If NY and Trimble consolidated today, they would have 1,992 students in the consolidated district. This is less than NY had in 1967 when Nelsonville and York consolidated and the new NY had 2,200 students. In other words, NY has lost about 1,000 kids over the course of 52 years. Athens today only has about 350 more students district-wide than NY had in 1967. In 1967, Athens had an enrollment well over 900 just in grades 10-12 alone.

How small will the schools be in another 50 years?
