THE ROONEY RULE IN THE NFL IS A JOKE IN VERY BAD TASTE!

Some say it gives coaches the chance to work on their interview skills. But what good does that do when you know that you have no chance at the job? Leslie Frazier seems to be thought of very well but is also used to fill this process. They say he has a good chance at the Bills job.

Some owners now are going for BIG NAMES and they will get them if not then interview more people. Some organizations look for a certain fit or how people there know and are comfortable with a certain coach. Like the Dolphins getting Tony Sparano because of his relationship with Parcells. That seems to have been a good fit for the Dolphins. Then the Redskins embarassment over the years is always up in the air. They now have Shananhan but I am not much of a supporter of him. He really has only won the big games with Elway at QB. He could not do it with other QB's. Then wore out his welcome in Denver.

The NFL went with coaches with no head coaching experience over the last few years and now are recycling some old head coaches. Some of the teams need to get more of a team concept going by those in the organization that do not play instead of some of the messes that are out there. Also owners should not be GM's like Mike Brown.

You have to interview a Jewish person a Catholic and a Canadian. We can call it the "We don't want to let anyone feel left out or possably offend someone rule" (has a nice ring to it)

I got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since some smart guy thinks that because half of the leagues head coaches aren't black (this is because the NFL is RACIST) there will be a new rule where at the begining of the 2011 season they will draw names out of a hat. They will draw 16 names that is 50% of the teams. Those teams will have to hire Black coaches!
The rule was meant to help but it has become a joke and if I was African American I would be offended by the rule itself.

I don't think any one is saying the NFL is racist. The problem is everything has to be turned around so it is about race. Some Jack*ss decided there weren't enough black coaches so he decided it was because of race.

If you ask the GM's and Coaches they will tell you they don't transition from the College game as well as Black players or Europien born players. If they said that about black people they would get crusafied! There would be lawsuits Al Sharton and Jesse Jackson would be holding ralleys.
I guess my point is if there is one! is that We as a country spend so much time making everything about race.( Don't say that there black, don't do that you will offend them because they are black, We have to make sure they get a piece of the pie for free because they were treated do badly many many years ago. I AM NOT SAYING THAT BLACK PEOPLE DON'T DESERVE EQUAL TREAMENT. i AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULDN'T BE AWARE OF THE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM IN THE PAST. I am saying that we need to treat everyone the same. The Rooney Rule makes hiring coaches about race not the best guy for the job!!

The Rooney rule is in place to make sure that minorites at least get an interview.You can still hire whoever you want whether they be black or white.

The answer is zero! These coaches were interveiwed and hired because they were the perceived as the best man for that particuler job.
GAHS thanks for posting this because it does show that there aren't a lot of Black head coaches in the history of the league. I believe that over time there will be more and more black head coaches in the NFL, this will not be because of the Rooney Rule.

As a Steeler fan and an admirer of how the Rooney family has run the Steelers over the years, I admit that this rule is just as dumb as most of the rest of affirmative action.
You're pretty much telling a black guy, "You aren't smart/professional/talented enough to get this job on your own, so we're going to give you a hand."
They treat black people like they're retarded or something.
The "big name" white coaches in the NFL weren't always "big name"; they had to actually go out and win games first.
In 30 years, most coaches will be black. Not because of this crap, but because most players are black and therefore they'll be the ones who know about football.
