Santonio Holmes
Hate to see him go but this may just have been done as a lesson to Santonio as well as Ben.Meaning, shape up or you too will be headed elsewhere.I'm not saying Ben was guilty or not, just saying he needs to keep himself away from trouble finding him.You would had to have been totally clueless to think with him visiting a small college campus town he wasn't asking for trouble. And he got it.As for Holmes,I think we got riped off in only getting a 5th round pick for him. That part does suck!

Re: Santonio Holmes
one of the most dumbest trades ive seen in a while....especially for a 5th round pick i mean thats an insult to holmes a superbowl mvp and your being sent away for a 5th round pick, i wouldnt of done this trade in a million years i dont care if he did get into some trouble
Re: Santonio Holmes
I have to agree that this trade has a message in it to Ben. If I am not mistaken, wasn't Holmes Ben's favorite receiver? The Steelers were prepared to release Holmes from what I have read, so I guess getting a 5th round pick for him was a plus. Also, over the years, the Steelers have found great players that they picked in the lower rounds fo the draft.
Based on their past track record in the draft, I would trust Pittsburgh's management on this one.
It will be interesting to see what comes out of Ben's meeting with Roger Goodell later this week.

Yes,I also heard the Steelers were prepared to or were going to outright release him.So getting a 5th round pick is better than nothing.I think the final straw was him violating the substance abuse policy on top of his current legal trouble in Florida.

Yes, I know, 5th round pick! but, we could have got NOTHING! If the Steelers would have released him thats what we would have got.And it was close to that from what I take. And on top of that the Jets wont have him for the first four games because of the suspension.

I guess they knew what they were doing when they went out and got Randle El back. That means Wallace is going to have to raise his play another notch, because I don't see fumble fingers Sweed being a factor.

I don't like building the Jets up!!! imo they got the Steelers best player from there o-line a few years back.
Re: Santonio Holmes
As a bengal fan, Im glad to see holmes gone. But he was a great player, cant see then letting him go. And for a fifth round pick. Hes worth alot more than that. The jets have really loaded up in the off season. There better than ever.
The other team that loaded up good is the ravens. Football will be real interesting this year .

Sweed is done! Wallace should be much like Holmes eventually. He has the same body type and speed. He also has Ward and Randle El to mentor him.Which is good...

Re: Santonio Holmes
Why couldn't we have traded Holmes staight up for Brandon Marshall? Marshall wants out of Denver...Seems like it would have made sense to me...I still cant figure out why we only got a 5th round pick.I know it's better than nothing but far from market value...
Re: Santonio Holmes
Holmes did something he should not have done by not only getting in trouble but making the owner upset. That is the reason why he wasn't traded for Marshall. Why would Rooney want to acquire another headache? He also got rid of Burress when he grew tired of his antics. Rooney didn't really want to wait around to get rid of Holmes and a pick was worth it to wash his hands of Holmes.
Big Ben is different for now but one screw up that can be proven he might be gone. Getting rid of Holmes should have sent a message to Ben to wake up or move out.

The players don't care if they are released. I bet, that if all the other teams would passup the chance to pickup a player that was released from another team because of always getting into trouble, the players would change their attitude. I doubt it though, because, there will be a boneheaded GM from another team that would sign them in a heartbeat.
