I remember the Cincinnati Royals. I think that both Robertson and Lucas were territorial draft picks for them.

An outstanding young black player for the Royals, Maurice Stokes, was stricken with a strokle or something like that that rendered him paralyzed for the rest of his life. Jack Twyman, a white player on the Royals took it upon himself to care for his team mate and friend for the rest of his life, until Stokes passed away in his mid 30s.

I thought there was a book or movie about this story called "My Brother's Keeper," but I havent been able to locate it yet.

I am pretty sure there was a made for TV movie about this. I know I watched something about Maurice Stokes a couple of times over the years.

And yes the oldtrojan is old enough to remember!

Yep, to bad the Celtics were a dynasty back then also. The Royals had some good teams with great players but couldn't get over the hump. They are now the Sacremento Kings but when they originally moved they were the "Kansas City-Omaha Kings".

Back in those days didn't the NBA have a 50 or 100 miles area where they could pick a player before other teams could? Didn't Jerry Lucas fall under this???????????

TTT, Thanks for the link to the Royals NBA Team. didn't realize so many well know NBA players had started their careers with the Royals. It was very interesting reading.
