Mike Zimmer

ESPN reported Thursday that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has joined the Colts head coaching derby with Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael while still in the mix for the Buccaneers job.

There are no indications that an interview has been scheduled. Zimmer, who interviewed for the Dolphins top job last weekend and didn’t get it, interviewed for the Tampa Bay job this past Tuesday.

Zimmer, who just finished his 12th season as an NFL coordinator, has the edge over both in the experience category with Gray and Carmichael combining for nine coordinator seasons.

The Colts would be a good fit for Zimmer and not far to travel from where he is now with his kids. They do need help on defense no matter who the QB will be.

As for Simpson he better hope he is not connected in anyway with ex Bear Hurd. Who is in even more trouble. Simpson has one good year after the Bengals kept him around waiting for him to learn to play. Then stuck with him when he got in trouble this year.

Zimmer will probably be back since the Bengals just gave the Dolphins permission to interview Kevin Coyle.

If the Colts hire Tress they better make sure the punt is not his favorite play like it was at O-State,not sure his conservative style will work in the NFL, I hope he succeeds if he does get it
