They signed a back up that used to play with NE.Forget his name, but I believe he went to Michigan State as Plaxico did.If we get down to him we are in BAD shape...Let's not think about it too much....

Re: Talk Steelers Football.
Its really hard to campare bengals to steelers, The steelers started in 1930, joining th the league in 1933, there were called the pirates, Bengals didnot have a team till 1968. Thats a 30 year head start. The steelers didnot win a playoff game till 1972, They were the worse team in football till 1972. That was 42 years of losing. The bengals started in 1968 and went to the superbowl in 1982, that was was 14 years after starting there team. Then they went in 1988, That was 20 years after having a team. The bengals started out better than steelers on years, Plus there were a lot more teams to beat when bengals went to superbowl The steelers have gone on to be better, But they Have 30 years on the bengals. I wonder if the bengals had 30 more years where they would be.Slim Jim wrote:No dog in this fight just a outside opinion of a fan of neither team. The bengals can't hold a candle to the Steelers as far a franchises...That would be like in a NBA example comparing the Utah Jazz to the Boston Celtics. The past does mean something...The Steelers have the respect of a winner and a model franshise. The bengals do not and most likely never will...

Eight afc titles and six super bowls...The Bengals need to get working on that real quick if the they're going to do that in this lifetime...
Re: Talk Steelers Football.
Give them the extra 30 years that you have and it might happen, Dont know, but they did not lose for 42 years, Cant take that away ethier.Black Panther wrote:Eight afc titles and six super bowls...The Bengals need to get working on that real quick if the they're going to do that in this lifetime...
Re: Talk Steelers Football.
The QB situation sure had a lot of names mentioned as to who they had signed. Hoyer spending time in New England may help. The WR situation bringing back Plax well it is better the the circus of TO. A WR who may have been a better fit was signed this week by Jacksonville in former Bengal Jordan Shipley. If Shipley is not hampered by his knee injury he would have been a good fit. With his sure hands and route running. With Plax you never know what you may get. Including his not playing this year until now that he may get injured again. Plax does know this is his last chance to get paid for playing football with maybe if he plays well another chance next year.
This is a tough defense to play against this week in the Browns. Even though the Browns are giving away free white flags this week. Maybe more important this week than a win might be to keep those that are playing healthy and injured players back as soon as possible. If Batch is rusty the Browns maybe able to pull out a win.

Browns deserve to celebrate. The stars aligned. I agree with Cool Cucumber. Why in the Hell did they let Jerrod Johnson go? He looked great in the preseason. When I heard that they decided to let him go and retain Grampa Batch and "Mr. Fragile" Leftwich, I knew that would come back to haunt them.
I predicted 8-8 this year for the Black and Gold, and it sure is looking more like that number.

Re: Talk Steelers Football.
The Browns did a good thing by not having the white flag give away. They could have given them to the Steelers after the game. The Steelers had to many fumbles. Then gets some O Line trouble again. Batch was put into a situation to win the game because the running game let them down. The fumbles were not even on hard hits.
The QB situation is much like a lot of the players on the team getting older. That also means coming back from injuries may take longer. They were talking about Ben coming back against the Ravens. The Ravens can sure put some hard hits on Ben. The Steelers need to win but the Ravens are not scoring a lot of points either. So it maybe a good game to rest and see if Batch can play better and if a RB can hold onto the ball.

Re: Talk Steelers Football.
As much as I hate them, the Steelers are a formidable organization. They will be heard from before the season is over.
Re: Talk Steelers Football.
They will be heard of for sure. Most of the tv people are talking about how disappointing they are playing right now. With the Oline injuries and play then add the RB fumbles. As well as penalties at bad times.
Some people think that just having Ben back will fix everything. You can't keep abusing Ben till he breaks again. Especially if the running game does not hold onto the ball. Seems like no team wants to pull away from the pack to win the Wild Card so that makes the playoffs wide open for many teams including the Steelers.

Re: Talk Steelers Football.
Whats going on with the ravens? They once looked like a shoo-in to win the division, they barely beat a struggling chargers team and now let a 3rd string 37 year old QB beat them. That upcoming Bengals steelers game might mean something now.
Re: Talk Steelers Football.
The Ravens played the way they have in the past. They play well then lose a game the could have won. No Rice getting the ball in the 4th quarter??? This game the Steelers tried to give the game to the Ravens. With dropped passes and missed passes. Not sure how the attitudes on offense with Mendenhal not active and having WR's as Co Starters??? This is a different team than in the past. Not sure if Ben coming back can fix all that is wrong.
Re: Talk Steelers Football.
I don't follow the NFL nearly as closely as I used to. I used to be a die-hard Steeler fan as many on here probably remember, but I lost a lot of interest in the league as I began to feel (like many do) that they were softening the game and being overzealous with safety precautions. I digress. I now follow both the Bengals and the Steelers like a fly on the wall and refer to myself as a quasi-fan of both organizations.
As it is, both teams sit at 7-5 and control their own destinies for a playoff berth as their other competition languishes in mediocrity. Neither of these teams impress me much at all and I believe that when one of them does reach the playoffs, they will be quickly dispatched in the wild card game. The difference? Pittsburgh fans will be furious about it. Some Bengal fans will be too, but if they do get into the playoffs, the celebration will last so long that few fans will even notice them getting manhandled in the playoff game. It is a difference of cultures. Starting at the middle of last decade and continuing right up until today, the Bengals have always been a flash in the pan; they get some young and/or highly publicized talent (mostly skill players) to sell some tickets, sneak into the playoffs, and are quickly defeated. The Steelers (at least usually, not so much lately) have traditionally been good at finding talent that everyone else overlooks and meeting needs and getting results. The difference? Over the last 10 years, the Steelers have 3 AFC Championships and the Bengals have 3 Wild Card losses.
