Re: Pirates Armada
Tough one tonight...Nice comeback though...I think if we win Wedge loses his job tonight.
Re: Pirates Armada
Walks will haunt you.
Indians only have 7 hits but score 5 runs. 4 of them in the 3rd when Snell issues 3 walks. UGH!
Pirates get 4 in the 9th but the bats have to come out earlier.
Hopefully, our ace, Zach Duke, can right the ship in game 2.
LETS GO BUCS!!!
On a side note, I really thought the Indians would can Wedge on monday. He has to be hanging on by a thread.

Snell nit picks too much.He has good stuff,he needs to throw more strikes even if they do get hit.Let your D work for you...That's why they're there.I still think with the some of the comments on a pre game interview and if they would have blown that lead he would have been canned last night...

Re: Pirates Armada
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!!
Pirates 10 Indians 6
On a side note, Duke pitches 6 quality innings and gives up 1 run, Chavez goes 1 inning on 7 pitches
, Grabow goes 1 inning. A total of 1 run scored.
Then we bring in Jackson and he faces 8 batters, gets 2 outs and gives up 5 runs!!!! What the hell
Close them out and go home! If he needs innings, send him down. Good grief.
Iron City for all, including Hab fans.
Will Wedge be back tomorrow?

Pirates 3 Indians 2.
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!!
How about Andrew McCutchen? Walk-off single in the 9th to win it! We may have a keeper folks! He has been as good as advertised since his call-up from Triple A.
Ohlendorf pitches 7 quality innings gives up 2 runs on 5 hits.
Grabow with a very shaky 8th with 3 walks and 2 K's but gets out of it.
Capps gets the win.
On a side note, the Bucs ship Ian Snell to triple A. Hopefully, this will get him on the right track. Right now, he needs to work on control.
Bucs take the series against the Indians. This is what we need to get to .500

No, Virgil Vasquez. He is starting tonight against the Royals.
Re: Pirates Armada
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Pirates 5 Royals 3
Virgil Vasquez makes his 1st major league start for the Pirates and throws 6 quality innings to get his first major league win!
Capps gets his 17th save.
Pirates have only 6 hits in the game but 3 of them are home runs. A little chicken on the hill from the lumber company.
3 game win streak for the Buccos!

Re: Pirates Armada
Raise that Jolly Roger one more time! The Pirates go for the sweep tomorrow! Should they wear the Homestead Grays jerseys again tomorrow? I believe in good mojo and carma..
Re: Pirates Armada
HEY, HEY, HEY...4 in a row!!!!
Buccos get another homer, this time from Delwyn Young. That makes 11 homers in the last 14 games for the Bucs. A little pop in the bat is good for your soul.
Paul Maholm gets a quality start by going 7 innings and giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. Good Starting pitching and timely hitting really helps out a young team.
I think they are wearing the Greys uniforms tomorrow.
Even though Pittsburgh is 35-39 and in last place in the Central, they are only 5 games back of the front running Cards and only 3.5 games back of the 3rd place Cubs.
Tough game tomorrow as the Royals will throw Greinke who is 9-3 with a 1.90 era. My choice for the starting spot on the AL All-star team.
I would be happy with a .500 season.
LETS GO BUCS!!! BREAKOUT THE BROOMS!!!

Possible trade in the making....
The Nationals have offered OF Lastings Milledge to the Pirates for Nyjer Morgan.
The Pirates countered in sending Morgan to the Nationals for Milledge and starting pitcher Craig Stammen. Nats said no. Could be more to this before the trade deadline is up.
Also, Pirates could move Freddie Sanchez and/or Jackie Wilson before the nonwaiver trade deadline date of July 31..
Stay tuned.

Re: Pirates Armada
Royals 3 Pirates 2. Bucs don't get the sweep but still take 2 of 3.
The Royals pitcher Greinke improves to 10-3 with a 1.95 ERA. This guy is my choice to be the starting pitcher in the All-star game for the AL.
Pirates only manage 7 hits off of him and 5 of them were from the LaRoche brothers, go figure.
Morton for the Pirates had a good start going 5 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 runs. Not bad for his second start.
Cubbies roll into the Burgh tomorrow night as they will throw Harden (4-4) against Duke (8-5). A chance to gain ground on 3rd place Chicago.

Re: Pirates Armada
Cubs 3 Pirates 1.
Bucs lost a tough one. Duke gave them a quality start by only allowing 3 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings.
When need some hitters that can deliver when there are men on base.
Tuesday's matchup pits Lilly (7-5) vs Ohlendorf (6-6). It is also the 100th anniversery of the opening of Forbes Field which was regarded as the first of the "new" style stadiums made of concrete and steel. It was the first stadium to have elevators, this in 1909, and padded outfield walls. The Pirates opponet on June 30, 1909...The Cubs, the Bucs won the game. The attendence was over 30,000. More than 5 times the number of people that showed up for the last game of the previous year's World Series final game.
Also, 4 days later, the Pirates hosted a tradition that still is done by every club in baseball, they had the first post game fireworks display on July 4, 1909. Over 40,000 people showed up for the game and the fireworks which was held later that evening.
Did you know that the Steelers hall of fame coach Chuck Noll coached his first game as the Steelers head coach at Forbes Field? Roberto Clemente hit his first home run there and Babe Ruth hit his last one in Forbes Field.
A lot of history in the Burgh so we will lift an Iron City in honor of the old ball yard and the start of the modern era of stadiums in her name.

Re: Pirates Armada
First...
Pirates 3 Cubs 0
Great job by Ohlendorf last night (we got him from the Yankees for Nady last season, my personal favorite player for the Bucs) 7 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 8Ks. And just enough Freddie to get 3 runs to win.
Second...
I don't pretend to understand trading Morgan, even though I said it was coming, for Milledge. He has a broken finger but he has proven to be a head case with both the Mets and the Nats. Somebody needs to tell him that if he doesn't workout with the Pirates, he is out of baseball, at 24. The pitcher they got, Hanahrah(?), could be decent in middle relief.
Morgan was well liked in the clubhouse (had been with the Pirates since being drafted in 2000) and in the stands. Look for Garrett Jones to come up from Indy. He does have some power and speed. We got him from the Twins, he couldn't get in their outfield as the Twins do have a pretty decent outfield. I think he should get a long look in left.
McCutchen and Young should be in center and right. Moss will rotate some with Jones in left, IMO.
What we really need is a righthanded power hitter. Not much from the right side since Bay was traded. But Huntindon will not spend the money to get an established player.
Pirates record in June, 14-13. It will be interesting to see what July and August will hold for us.
I thought a .500 season was within our reach, but I am doubting that will happen.
Vasquez starts tonight for the Bucs vs Wells. Hopefully the Bucs can move forward from the trades yesterday.
LETS GO BUCS!!! (I keep telling myself)
