You cannot hire a coach and THEN bring in a GM and hold that GM accountable for the performance of the coach. Randy Lerner is looking more like Mike Brown everyday. Maybe the Browns would have been better off to get rid of the owner.

For a dazed and confused Franchise :122248 anything is possible :(

It all doesn't matter. Whoever the Browns hire will be on the clock as soon as his first press conference. Vince Lombardi couldn't win in this organization. We need a new culture in addition to a new coach/GM. The only thing first-rate about the Browns is the passion of their fans. That passion has been betrayed so many times I'm getting a little sick of it. Brown's fans, search your hearts and if you can be honest, you know what I am saying is the truth. I'd say that fan's cancelling their season tickets might send a message but (1) they won't and (2) there is so much money floating around from TV and sponsors these days that it wouldn't matter to the owner anyway. Maybe Randy can buy a European basketball team to give him something to do when his soccer team isn't playing.

Browns to interview Ravens director of pro personnel Kokinis
Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Browns owner Randy Lerner will interview Baltimore Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis for their general-manager vacancy, a meeting that also could clear the way for Cleveland to hire fired New York Jets coach Eric Mangini.

The Browns received permission to speak with Kokinis after the Ravens advanced in the AFC playoffs with a 27-9 win at Miami on Sunday. They'll play at Tennessee on Saturday.

Browns closing in on Mangini
NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that former Jets coach Eric Mangini is close to getting the Browns' job but warns that owner Randy Lerner has been known to be unpredictable. More ... It isn't known when Kokinis' interview will take place. Lerner has spent the past week meeting with coaching and GM candidates in the New York area. Mangini, the front-runner to become Cleveland's coach, has expressed an interest in working with Kokinis, a longtime friend who worked with him for two years in Cleveland and one in Baltimore.

Interestingly, Kokinis has spent the past five years working in a similar role to the one Phil Savage had with the Ravens before he joined the Browns in 2004. Savage was fired following Cleveland's season-ending loss last month in Pittsburgh

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Scott Pioli, who helped build the New England Patriots' dynasty, may have a second suitor among teams looking for general managers.

Pioli, 43, was scheduled to meet with Kansas City Chiefs owner and board chairman Clark Hunt, possibly Monday, persons with knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press. They requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for Pioli.

The Browns and the Chiefs have expressed interest hiring in Scott Pioli as general manager.

The vice president for player personnel at New England, Pioli is close to Patriots coach Bill Belichick and has been with the Patriots for nine years. He's also been courted by the Cleveland Browns for their GM vacancy and met with Browns owner Randy Lerner last week in New York.

Pioli would find a warm welcome in Kansas City. At the last Chiefs' home game, shortly after the embattled Carl Peterson resigned after 20 years as president, general manager and CEO, several signs were spotted in the crowd proclaiming, "We want Pioli."

Hunt should be in good position to get a read on Pioli. One of the closest friends the 43-year-old son of Lamar Hunt has among NFL owners is Jonathan Kraft, the president of the Patriots and son of owner Robert Kraft.

While Pioli may be very high on Hunt's list, he's not alone. But unlike Lerner, who has willingly shared information with reporters, Hunt has kept his search almost entirely leak-proof, instructing subordinates that only he is to speak to the situation.

In his only meeting with reporters since Peterson resigned Dec. 15, Hunt said he intended to be more directly involved in Chiefs operations than in the past, but that the new general manager would have broad control of all football operations.

Hunt also said he intended to split the job Peterson had held and put a second person in charge of the team's business operations, a plan which could conflict with Pioli's desire to have total control.

Hunt also said he would be thorough and patient in making his first major decision since becoming board chairman following the death of his father in December 2006.

In the meantime, the fate of coach Herm Edwards and his staff remains uncertain. In the first year of a rebuilding effort to which Hunt gave his blessing, the Chiefs suffered a rash of injuries and finished 2-14, the worst season in team history. They are 6-26 the past two years but Edwards has one year left on a four-year, $12 million contract and is lobbying to be allowed another year to get his rebuilding movement off the ground.

Hunt makes no secret of the fact he likes Edwards. But he has also said the new general manager would have "significant input" into the decision on whether to retain him.

Regardless of the coaching situation, it's easy to see why Pioli would find the Chiefs attractive.

For one thing, they have stable ownership. The team has been in the Hunt family since Lamar founded it at the same time he helped found the old AFL 50 years ago. Clark, like his father, is not a meddler.

In addition, the Chiefs have one of the most enthusiastic and loyal fan bases in the league, and will play next year in a refurbished stadium. Arrowhead, opened in 1972, is undergoing a $375 million renovation which includes a plush new headquarters building, weight and conditioning areas, and expanded indoor and outdoor practice facilities.

And along with several promising young players Edwards acquired in the past two years, the Chiefs have the third overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

IF Pioli turns down the Browns it will more than likely be because of the state of the organization and how long it will take to rebuild it given all the draft picks Savage gave away.

You saying Mangini will be the next Browns coach is something no talking head with access to teams is willing to confirm.

The name McKay is also surfacting as a GM possibility. The names of possibilities for both positions is growing everyday and yet you have already made the hire.

Since my opinion is a valid as anyone else's, if I had my druthers I'd like Jim Fassel. Barring that I'd take Shanahan as long as Crennel is retained as defensive coordinator. One of the reasons I was hoping Pioli would take the job is because of his relationship with Crennel (Lernel loves the man too), and I really would like to see Romeo stay in charge of the defense. He seems to be another coordinator who wasnt able to make the transition to head coach; something the Browns should realize with hirings like Bud Carson, Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, and now Crennel.

Im as big a Browns fan as anyone I know, and I can honestly say this whole process of everyone trying to outscoop the other guy, and reporting leaks that later prove to be untrue is just something I couldnt care less about. Since I have no input in the decision making, I prefer to just wait and see and then be my usual critical self.

You ask where i get my info , say hello to your new coach thur morning . THink jets :122246 :122246
