Pirate Armada
Re: Pirates Armada
Well, the Pirate message board is either, "trading LaRoche is the worst thing the Pirates have ever done or the best thing they have ever done." No middle ground to be found.
Personally, Adam was protected in the Braves lineup by Andrew and Chipper Jones. He got to see alot of fastballs and he produced. That was not the case in Pittsburgh. He did have a .267 average and hit 58 homeruns but never cracked the 100 RBI barrier for the Bucs in either season. He will be the backup to Youkilis at first. However, if Mike Lowell can't play at 3rd because of his hip, Youkilis will go to 3rd and LaRoche will start at 1st. Adam will benefit from the trade to Boston like Bay did and get better. There are a lot more hitters in their lineup to protect him. Plus, he is a very good fielder at his position.
Off to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks. One of the few teams with a worse record than the Pirates. Hope we take the series and have a winning road trip.
Iron City for all, Molson for D-5. Don't the MacKenzie brothers drink LaBatts? (12 days of Christmas?)

I agree.
The Bucs must have had a few Molsons on the flight out.

Re: Pirates Armada
Pirates 10 D-backs 3
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!!
Iron City for all!!! If we ever get to .500 as a team we can start drinking the premium beer Yuengling. If we keep cutting payroll we will have to resort to drinking Ol' Fort Pitt beer.
Duke gets his 14th quality start of the season, 6 1/3 innings with 3 earned runs. Evens his record at 9-9.
Interesting fact for Duke, in his 9 wins the Bucs have scored 74 runs including tonight; in his 9 losses the Bucs have scored only 9 runs while he was in the game, 13 runs total. Feast or famine for the Duke.
Bucs bang out 16 hits. Garrett Jones gets his 10th home run since the callup from Indy and ties a record for most home runs in the month of July (10) he shares the record with Don Clendenon, July 1966. Every Buc starter had a hit tonight.
Jack and Freddy set out the game. I start to worry when a starter is not in the lineup, especially these two.
Series tied at 1-1. 2 games left.
LETS GO BUCS!!!

Re: Pirates Armada
Today is the official end of professional baseball in Pitsburgh.
Both Jack and Freddy traded away. Jack and Ian Snell to Seattle along with 3.3 million in cash for 6 minor leaguers and 1 major leaguer.
Freddy to the Giants in a straight-up trade for minor league pitcher Tim Anderson (AA) consider the 26th best prospect in baseball.
MLB.COM is calling these 2 trades impressive for the Pirates but Pittsburgh fans will be up in arms. They must be as the current thread on these 2 trades on their web site is now over 1,100 posts.
I was going up to the Burgh to watch the team this weekend to support them but I don't know now.
The Pirates have traded away 8 starters in less than 2 years. 3/4 of their starting infield is gone. All-Stars Bay, Wilson, Sanchez and McClouth.
The big issue I have is this, if the younger players they have traded for get good enough to help us win, will the Pirates pay them what they are worth to keep them in the Burgh or let them go they way they did in 1992 when they traded away 20 game winner Smiley, Bonilla and Bonds?
Freddy won a batting title on 2006 and was given a big time contract that was loaded on the backend for next year and then the Pirates don't want to pay. Doesn't send a positive vibe to fans that they are committed to getting and attracting players needed to win.
Oh, the Giants sweep the Pirates as the Bucs go 1-6 on the road trip. Hello 100 loss season.
At least they didn't trade away the Iron City beer for a class "A" minor league player to be named later.
The Steelers open camp in Latrobe soon.

Re: Pirates Armada
The purge in the Burgh continues....
Pirates trade Grabow and Gorzelanny to the Cubs for pitchers Kevin Hart, Jose Ascanio and 2nd baseman Josh Harrison.
Hart goes straight to the Pirates, Ascanio to AAA Indy and Harrison to A ball.
Hart will be a starter but since he just pitched for the Cubs to go to 3-1, we won't see him until early next week.
I hate to say it but I think the Pirates got a steal in this one. 3 good young players.
Also, Milledge will be callup to the Burgh on friday and will be given a starting spot and will be a regular meaning it is his position to keep if he can. Outfield will be Jones in left, McCutchen in center and Milledge in right. Moss becomes a backup.
The Pirate message board is on fire right now.
This is what the hot stove league used to be like in the old days before free agency and all the trades happened at the winter meetings.
It will take a couple of years to see how this plays out but if the Pirates could come up with a hitting coach as good as Kerringan, we might have something in the near future.
I have never seen a team deal like this in the middle of the season.

For Pittsburgh fans, here is what you do. Find a weekend in August where hopefully the Pirates are in town and the Steelers have an exhibition game. Book a hotel downtown, go to the Pirates game on Friday night and take in what is arguably one of the best ballparks in all baseball. Then, watch the Steelers scrubs play whoever on Saturday night. Drink liberal amounts of Arn City both days. Sober up and drive home Sunday. Wait for September.

I was at PNC Park for the 2-0 loss to the Brew crew last week on tuesday night. Me and my business partner walked up to the gat 30 minutes before the first pitch and we only had to pay $27 a piece for seats in Row S, just to the left side of home plate off the third base line. field level seats for $27. The ticket in Cincy would have cost over $40 and Pittsburgh's ball park is awesome.
I agree with the above statement about August or September. i think the Reds play there in one of those two months. I would change a few things though.
Get you a hotel room and then go down to the market district and eat a pastrami at Primanti brothers. If you want to have an Arncity, that's fine, but after the first one, switch over to Yeungling.
Yes Pittsburghs baseball team is awful, but for the money, it is still a good night out. I think friday nights is dollar dog night.
You win the superbowl and the stanley cup, you are entitled to lose a little in baseball. By the way, did they honor the 79 team this year? That was a special team. My all time favorite Pirate/Red, Dave Parker, played on that team. Was that also the year he gunned down a guy at the plate in the all star game?

Yeah....why can't we get Yuengling in Ohio? Good stuff.
the baseball commish should step in and stop the Pirate carnage.
Enuff is enuff.....if I were a Pirates fan I'd file a lawsuit.

I think we'll keep Kerrigan. What he has done with the Pirate pitching staff has impressed me. However, I think we are down to one lefty in the bullpen, Donnie Veal, after all the trading.
I do have to say that a bad day at the ol' ball park is still a good day and PNC Park is a great place to watch a game. The Reds come to the Burgh August 21-23 and September 22-24. Hopefully the Bucs can overtake the Redlegs and get out of the celler.
Pirates are 7-17 for July with tonight's game left to be played.
The Commish did step in and stop the carnige. The trading deadline ends today.

Lets hope we can beat Washington's AAA team this weekend!

Nice and needed win tonight.Yeah we made some deals, but at least they are supposedly for the betterment of the organization. The Reds on the other hand take on another big salary in Rolen and will still finish last or next to last...That makes you scratch your head as well...

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!
Pirates 5 Senators, er Natonals, er Nationals 4
The new look Pirates are undefeated! Look out Redlegs, we are coming after your next to last place spot!
Seriously, I think it was Grabow who yesterday slammed the organization by saying who they have now will never win. Again, we will have to wait and see how this plays out in the next couple of years. Some baseball folks have said the Pirates made great steps in improving their farm system and it should improve the Pirates in a couple of years. Others have said the Pirates got nothing for nothing. Interesting that if the Pirates had nothing in the way of talent, the other teams thought differently.
Hope the Pirates make it 2 in a row tonight.

Raise that Jolly Roger one more time...McCutchen went off tonight hitting three home runs...Looks like we may have gained another game on the trainwreck waiting to happen Reds!
Re: Pirate Armada
Bartender, line up the Iron City because we are going to knock 'em back tonight!
McCutchen tees of for 3 dingers and 6 RBIs.
I realize it is the Nationals but this has to be a big shot in the arm for a young club.
Virgil Vasquez got the win to improve to 2-5 but he was optioned to AAA Indy after the game and they called up right handed reliever Steven Jackson. This will open up a spot in the starting rotation for newly acquired Kevin Hart. Your starters will be Hart, Duke, Maholm, Ohlendorf and Morton. At least Vasquez got a win so it was a positive note for him to go back down on.
Reds lose so they drop into a tie with the Pirates!
Time to get on the Reds thread and stir the pot some.
New look Pirates are 2-0 and looking for #3 tomorrow.
